SabresBaltimore Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 I'd like to see him trade out one (or more) of our UFA forwards for some picks back. I don't expect we'll get any long term help beyond that with what we have to offer. 1 Quote

darksabre Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 The question now becomes: what next? I don't think they have to move anyone out since NJ retained salary. Quote

At least it adds toughness and he still can score. Not big risk here. Basically this guy is another Kyle Okposo that can hit... He has 8 goals and 24 points in 61 games...kind of the same stat production per game Okposo has put up in 45 games... 1 Quote
sabresparaavida Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 Wouldn't be surprised if we see erod/sheary + a dman for another forward 1 1 Quote
Randall Flagg Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) Simmonds isn't good, but this isn't the time where you add actually good players if you're in a position like we are, so if we move out a bad player then it can't hurt Edited February 24, 2020 by Randall Flagg 1 Quote

Maybe Sheary goes too. Seems to be out of the doghouse lately, so wouldn't even put that at 50-50. Can't see any other F's on the way out. (Would be perfectly fine w/ Frolik going away, but don't expect it.) If any other rostered guy goes, expecting it to be a D-man for a true 2nd liner; but really doubt that happens today. Rasmus_ Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 I hate this trade. Yes, I know the cost is minimal, but as spoken, it's three years too late. He's a terrible 5v5 player and honestly, we have two many wings dependent on strong center play that we don't ***** have. I'm tired of Botterill and I hope he's fired on Tuesday. 1 1 Quote
LGR4GM Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 Yea, this means nothing. Just another bottom line player added to Botts resume. 1 Quote
Randall Flagg Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 This will be marginally more entertaining than watching Frolik or Sheary play RW 2 Quote

Upgrading Sheary to him and Rodrigues to Simmonds would be a decent day. Quote
Zamboni Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 So he was #17 in NJ. i wonder what number he’ll be in Buffalo. Quote

Maybe Botts wants to make acquiring Frolik look better? Sounds like this move was more for what he might give in toughness and in the locker room/leadership then anything else... 1 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted February 24, 2020 Report Posted February 24, 2020 He's not what he once was, and it's been pointed out above his 5on5 numbers are not solid anymore. He can be a grinder and an Okposo insurance policy. Question: Would Simmonds get 2PP time on our current roster? Quote

Which is why the expectation is the 2nd line gets upgraded in the off-season. But, if he were to surprise and make a big move, it would have to be a RHD getting traded. None of the available F's brings back anything better than a Simmonds. And nobody is trading for Hutton, Johansson, nor Hammond. 1 Quote
