I don’t think tanking is on their radar. A high pick is probably viewed as an added benefit but not the goal. I think they went into this season viewing it as some sort of “Culture Year™️“. As if that could be instilled by reinforcing positive messaging rather than by achieving a winning formula. Edited November 28, 2019 by Thorny Quote

nfreeman Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 Certainly there is no way the Sabres should do this unless an extension is part of the deal. But IF Hall would sign an extension, would NJ take Risto, Mitts and an unprotected 2020 #1? And would JB offer it? 1 Quote

Brawndo Posted November 30, 2019 Author Report Posted November 30, 2019 I wouldn’t offer the unprotected first, because if the Sabres still miss the playoffs that’s the 1st Overall Pick In 2020 based on Taylor Hall’s Track Record 1 3 1 Quote

Brawndo Posted November 30, 2019 Author Report Posted November 30, 2019 The big concern is the Sabres already have Skinner locked up on a long term deal at LW. Locking up two LWs at their ages to long term expensive deals, doesn’t seem wise at this point. 3 Quote

Dont want to give up good assets and a Skinner-sized contract. One or the other maybe, but not both. Edited November 30, 2019 by dudacek 2 Quote

They aren’t getting 2 1sts and a D prospect for approximately 20 games of Taylor Hall. If he had an extension however that would make sense. I would guess if Hall has made it clear he wants to be a UFA he’ll be worth a protected 1st or a 2nd and a middish prospect. Cap stuff not withstanding. Quote

freester Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 There is no way Hall is signing an extension with us before he has a chance to see what’s out there as a UFA. 2 Quote

That’s a pretty good return. Just as a comparison, I would think he would get a little better return that what Kane got. Edited November 30, 2019 by Curt Quote
Brawndo Posted November 30, 2019 Author Report Posted November 30, 2019 Colorado is the most logical trading partner. Per Puck Daddy, the Devils have been heavily scouting all levels of the Avs Organization and Colorado has the cap space and prospects to make it happen Quote
Zamboni Posted November 30, 2019 Report Posted November 30, 2019 Would JB do Skinner and Asplund for Hall straight up. Assuming an extension was in place. 1 Quote

LGR4GM Posted December 1, 2019 Report Posted December 1, 2019 If Botterill trades our 2020 first for anything short of a #1 center under the age of 25 he should be fired before the fax goes through. Trade our 2020 first for a 28yr old lw, are we even trying to build a team here? 2 1 Quote
