Good listen if you can tolerate the RA guy and his accent. Interview is from just prior to all-star game. 3 Quote
Randall Flagg Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 He raves about Krueger. says he's shooting lower (!!!) and that's why he's scoring more. He's gotta get that message to his teammates. Quote
WildCard Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 Hope he didn't pull a Roenick is all. NBC fired him for that I believe Quote

Lots of good stuff in here and builds hope, but we may need to prepare ourselves for future Drury-ing for Boston. Tom Brady's chef, Pats #1, woof. 1 Quote

Beer Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 Good listen. Thanks for sharing. I used to listen to chiclets religiously but changed jobs so no longer have a commute. RA is a good dude, don’t hate because of the accent. 1 Quote

... Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 Eichel has really, REALLY bought into RK. Quote
msw2112 Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 That bodes well for the present and future of the team. If the captain and star player hasn't bought in, it's a big problem. That was the case with Bylsma and sure seemed like it in the later part of the Housely era. Jack's next-level play this year certainly indicates that SOMETHING is working with him. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 "He handles our room so well, never lets his emotions get the best of him. If we play bad, we have a bad game...instead of the usual, like come in, kick the trash barrel, let us have it, he doesn't say anything, he regroups with us in the morning, delivers a really really good message, after he delivers that message everyone's like 'holy sh*t, I'll go out and play right now if he wants'" 1 Quote
... Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 Apparently respects Steve Smith. Wishes he could tell stories about Samson, who is recently single. Mentions Bogo several times: playing cards with him on the plane, coming over for pre-game dinners. Vacations in places like Scorpios Mykonos. Quote

I mean, there's natural progression, but by and large Eichel has been a very different player overall. His skills were there, but his attitude was crap. That seems to have changed. The talent on the team still hasn't changed enough. 1 Quote

The talent on the team still hasn't changed enough. Agreed on all points. I do think Phil played a role in the beginning of Eichel's leap in on-ice leadership and off-ice (public) attitude, but there's a distinct difference between the Jack we see today (who is the captain that will hoist our first cup) and the one of yesteryear The best part about this offseason is that there is basically no more room for diverging fan views on where the team is at. A boat load of contracts viewed as a bunch of small anchors are gone, it's the start of year number 4, there is ample room to add guys, and we have plenty of assets. I think every single person, whether they're sold on a longer view or think the team should have been better quicker, is ready to see the talent change enough this summer to where we can finally have a collective genuine belief that the team is a playoff team. It will make evaluation of the staff cut and dry. Let's sit back, see what they can do, and hopefully feel some real hope for this year for the first time in a long time. Quote
Zamboni Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 Is Eichel having a great year because he’s developing more? RK coaching isn’t a factor. Or is Eichel having a great year because RK is doing well coaching him? He wouldn’t be doing as well if RK wasn’t the coach? Mix of both perhaps? Quote
msw2112 Posted February 14, 2020 Report Posted February 14, 2020 (edited) Both. Eichel is older. He is more mature physically and mentally and is entering his prime. Some guys enter their prime earlier and are immediate stars at 19, 20, 21, etc. Others need some seasoning before really hitting their stride. Eichel may be one of the latter, plus RK's coaching has kept him fully engaged. His demeanor on the ice is noticeably different this year. He plays with a new level of confidence and engagement. Now there's the chicken and egg issue: is he more engaged and confident because he is playing well (and pucks going in the net, etc.) or is he playing well because he is more confident and engaged? Again, let's go with both. Edited February 14, 2020 by msw2112 Quote
