Thinking about how to fix the Sabres, the only thing I can come up with that isn't shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic is a Blockbuster invloving Dahlin.

I know this sounds blasphemous to most but did fans feel that way prior to Turgeon for LaFontaine?  Is there a superstar forward in his prime we could pry away from a team looking to rebuild around a player like Dahlin.

I can't think of any but I'm sure my friends here at Sabrespace can come up with something.

Or completely blast me for even making the suggestion.  Blast away...?

Given we have a one man team now, it'd have to be Eichel

Turgeon & Housley, too.  The days each of those bums got sent packing for real hockey players were great.

Dahlin is no Stinky Pete nor Wowwie.  They'd better not trade him.

Norris type defenders have simply become the defenseman who scores the most points now.  They should just call it the best offensive defenseman award now, not best defenseman.

The better analogy to the Turgeon trade would be, "Would you trade Eichel?" Turgeon was in his fifth year when he was traded, and the Sabres were roughly the same number of years into a playoff drought (innocently defined in those days as a stretch of years without winning a playoff series) as they are now. For the young'uns, that drought was probably even more infuriating than this one. Given Eichel's ceiling and approaching prime and certain intangibles Turgeon didn't have, of course you don't trade him.

Dahlin is interesting. The Sabres lack a critical mass of really good players. Do you trade a good player who is likely to be really good and maybe even great to get a haul of really good players in return? Sabres would likely win the trade in the short term and very possibly look historically stupid in the long run. It's not a crazy idea.

I know Dahlin is only 19, but I watched a winger last night come down the boards, and between the blueline and the top of the faceoff circle, Dahlin should have made a routine play of taking him out, and instead, the player skated right by him.  I just sat there shaking my head.

This team is cursed.

Turgeon put up 106 points for the Sabres in his 3rd season and then "dipped" to only 79 points the next year before being traded to Toronto earlier the following season. He scored 122 goals and had 323 points in 322 games for the Sabres, so yes that is Eichel like production. However, it should be noted he played in a much more offensive era where 100 point players were a dime a dozen. That being said, he finished with 515 goals and 1327 points in 1294 games so he was a damn good player for a long time, averaging over a point a game, with a high of 132 points in a season for the Islanders including 58 goals that year.

Dale Hunter should still be rotting in a Nassau County prison for what he did to Pierre. He possibly cost him and the Islanders a cup, should've been kicked out of the sport for life.

***** it why not?

What can we get for Eichel? Or Skinner? Trade it all and start over. Will make the expansion draft easier.

Quebec/Colorado traded the rights to Eric Lindros for basically Philly's entire farm system and ended up getting a couple of Cups out of the deal.

I’m in. Sign me up to trade a young star or star to be for a handful of really good players that push our bottom 6 off the roster.

Lets jump start this ***** show.

I don't have the attachment to Dahlin, as a fan, that I do to Eichel. As such, I'm more open to this idea with him than with Jack (especially considering I like our defensemen without Rasmus way more than I like our centers without Jack).

But I really doubt that a team would put together something convincing enough for me to be okay with the trade.

But see....what has he done for you to say this with such certainty ?  If you take out the excuse of his age, his play over the past two years has been largely lackluster, and I would say he's flat out struggled this year .  And speaking of the age excuse, isn't he supposed to be a prodigy and thus far ahead of the curve for typical defensemen his age?  The guy looks like a 19/20 year old defensemen most nights.  If he was a forward, we'd all barking to send him down, but alas we must put our rose colored defensemen glasses on.

He shows spurts, but overall, m'eh.  I think this would be a good time to have someone else buy the hype if we could get a boatload for him.

Sure, I'd love to see Dahlin score more goals, but other than that I think he's well on track. It'll be another 5 seasons before he even starts his defensive prime. So -- nah, I wouldn't move him.

But! If I did, I think now is not the time. His trade value was probably highest before he was picked, and now there's a bit of a lull while he's in his growing pains (particularly on a bad team where he can't freewheel with protection). Every mistake is amplified by this team because there's no margin for error. He's not young Doughty on those stacked LA Kings rosters.

But, but! I'd start by requesting a young 2C to build around, the team's top forward prospect, a D-man who can take his spot on the PP, and at least 2 first-round unprotected picks, a couple second rounders, and.... maybe a goalie swap with Hutton going back. Remember, other GM, you're trading for Baby Lidstrom for the next 15 years. I want your future! Give me your children.
