When his being pulled from the AHL ASG gets considered as well, the only doubt there was about his recall was whether it would happen today or tomorrow.  Today won.  Good for him, a bit more money in his pocket.

It's to save money.  Much of the league reduced to the absolute minimum allowed roster size during the break.  They all save some money and some of these guys get a little extra playing time.
