The second game in the Dad's trip and last game before a 10 day break.

The Sabres are in Nashville, where you won't have to see Peter Laviolette's face behind the bench.  They've won a few in a row and it would be great for them to win tonight so the Sabrespace happy meter is high enough to withstand 10 days of no hockey.

It's a game night in Nashville. 

The Sabres visit the Predators for their final game before the bye week. They have won three straight games and five of their last seven, coming off a 4-1 victory in Dallas on Thursday. 

Coverage on MSG begins at 7:30 p.m., or you can listen to the game on WGR 550. Puck drop is scheduled for 8. 

It's the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Sabres won the first matchup, 4-3, in Buffalo on Dec. 12. Jack Eichelscored two goals while Linus Ullmarkmade 36 saves. 

The Predators have had an uncharacteristically inconsistent season to date. They parted ways with coach Peter Laviolette on Jan. 6 and replaced him with John Hynes, the former New Jersey Devils coach, the following day. They're 2-3-0 since then, coming off a 4-2 loss to Anaheim on Thursday. 

A glance at the numbers suggests special teams have been the problem. Nashville is plus-22 at 5-on-5, but its power play ranks 25th (16.6 percent) and its penalty kill sits in 30th (73.1 percent). 

The Sabres, meanwhile, have benefitted from their special teams play as of late. Though the power play went 0-for-2 against Dallas' top-ranked penalty kill after going 6-for-13 in five games prior, the penalty kill was a perfect 4-for-4. Michael Frolik capped the effort with an empty-net, shorthanded goal.

Still a fan always a fan and been watching outside the GDT.

Hard enough to watch sometimes alone w/o additional negativity that just brings me down. 

For all the hand wringing I think Frolik and Lazar are solid contributors and playing a more defensive first game. An effective PP and PK  is perfect experience for a team to make a playoff push.   

And one last positive for me leaving me a bit excited is to see what the line-up will look like and perform with Skinner and Olof back in. 

Lets Go Buffalo, make the break something that has us all looking forward when you get back to playing.

I like these dailyfaceoff jerseys and rankings. So I checked out our lineup...  Colin Miller is the 2nd best RW on our team (after Reino). I'll have to take a look at the lines when we get Skinner and Olofsson back, because right now they're a whack-a-mole mess. And apparently all of our D-pairings are at the bottom of their respective (1st pairing, 2nd pairing, 3rd pairing) rankings across the league.

This game is big.  We have a nice little streak going.  Players are buying into the coach for the first time in forever.  
 

The strong responsible play of Girgensons, Larsson, Okposso, Lazar, and Frolik can help us protect a lead.  So let’s start strong and get a lead.

Unless he's getting playing time because a potential suitor is trying to decide whether to pull the trigger, why the #### is Bogosian higher on the depth chart than Miller?  (Yes, Bogo actually played physically in Dallas for once, but all his other normal warts were still there.)

Assuming that wasn't rhetorical, likely watch either Bogosian or Rodrigues go through the motions again.  (Of course Krueger may go off the board and sit Asplund so we can watch both Bogo and E-Rod go through the motions.)

Or maybe they both got the talk that Kozlov got from Regier way back in the day to the effect of: you want to be traded, but we're not taking a puck bag back in return for you, so get your head out of your ### and play hockey so we can trade your ungrateful ### for something that makes trading you worth the effort.   The hope is they got that talk and took it to heart, but it is not the expectation.

This is the kind of game we have to win if we want to have any chance at all. They are a bit of a mess and if we take it to them no reason we can't win. 

I'm most interested to see if we come out with effort again (like in Dallas) or will we rest on our laurels and lag like too many times in the past. If we come out and take it to them, then maybe Krueger's finally getting this house in order. I am hoping for a good game.
