Two reasons:

It's Toronto and dealing within division is always a risky venture; nor would I trade in division since I'd rather us have too many D and them have too few than help them become a more complete team. 

Dubas is an analytics junkie and is likely no interested in many of our willing to trade Dmen

Also ... I’m glad Sabres aren’t linked. Less chatter big mouth sources in the Sabres front office. Loose lips sink ships (or the equivalent of that for a sports team). ?

The Sabres need to be concerned about their own roster.  If a team has players available that the Sabres believe can improve their roster, and the deal is fair, they should make the deal, regardless if the team is in their division or not.

We should have traded them Erod and Sherry when their analytics showed they were good but the eye test told us they were awful
