The Beer Thread: Because Beer

Genesee Brewing's Ruby Red Kolsch is the beer of the summer. 

Also Creature Comfort's reclaimed rye is a fantastic beer. 

I thought we had a beer thread but maybe not. Have at it or merge if needed.

I thought it was "What are you drinking?", but that had a lot of Whishkey chat in it.

In any case, I'm riding the NE/hazy/juice IPA fad until it peters out. Love it.

I'm not an IPA fan. DIPA yes but most regular IPA's either hazy, NE, or even West Coast just don't do it for me. 

Now Belgium doubles, triples, and quads... oh hell yes.

There definitely used to be a beer thread.

I did my yearly Christmas ritual of going shopping by myself on transit near the Eastern Hills Mall (or the ruins of it, anyways), then going across the street to the brew pub for French Onion soup and 2-3 various Christmas Ales, then back to shopping. They're always some of my favorite beers of the year. Celebration by Sierra Nevada and the Great Lakes Christmas are always excellent.

I also had a Yule Shoot Your Rye Out rye winter ale which was excellent a few days ago during the Bills game.

My all-time favorite beer is the Ommegang Hennepin, it's simply the best.

Not abbey beers, but the ones I will drink the most.   Cornet and Gouden carolus.

Not a trappist anymore, no monks that brew it and owned by Carlsberg now.   Heineken gave it to them after buying the Alken-Maes brewery (maes is the biggest competition for Stella in Belgium ).

My preferences shade towards saisons.  Hennepin is a very good one.

With much more testing to be done, my favorites so far have been:

Mad Tree brewery's Thundersnow.  Has ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon.  8.2% 

And Columbus Brewing Company's Citra Noel.  Tastes just like a Christmas pine tree would I imagine.  7.3%

FYI, Costco has sampler cases of Sierra Nevada consisting of 6 packs of Skiesta, Torpedo, Pale Ale, and Southern Gothic.  Just haven't gotten to the Skiesta yet!

Mad Elf is solid...but I LOVE Troegenator by them

+1. There is occaisionally a "Naked Elf", which takes out some of the cherry and spices. It's also very good.

Thin Man - Bliss, is pretty solid when you can find cans....... and @ Elmwood when you can't. 

3HB - Suspended Particle and Strong Arm are others I enjoy. Hazy, IPA's, delicious, and locally brewed. 

From the Genny discussion in the Mitz thread....... I want to like their beers, just can't find one that really is great. Except for Ruby Red, they're all kinda meh. Drinkable but nothing that is really delicious......... and the Ruby Red is outstanding, once the temps get over 80 F. 

A couple other hazy ones to look into...... Bell's Official, and Brewdog Hazy Jane. Pretty good stuff.

Agreed, although I'm doubting the fad runs dry anytime soon. I go to Belgium at least 3-4x/year. The beer is meh.. Not worth the excitement IMHO. Give me a DHF 90 Imperial IPA all day over anything I've sampled in Europe.

Enjoyed a few Rhinegeist Truth at the work holiday happy hour. Was not disappointed.

At the moment I'm enjoying Ales made with Citra hops. Nice and light tasting.

I have also enjoyed some of the ale sours that seem to be growing in popularity, although they can get a bit gruesome on the ole stomach. #gutrot

Hats off to the 71 brewery in Dundee for this beaut.

So I dont drink ETOH, but I have heard there are some non alcoholic craft beers... I recently tried a Guiness version called Caliber... not bad... just curious for us non drunks or no longer drunks if anyone knows of any good alternatives?
