Stoner Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 The recording of Uncle Milt saying "Last minute of play in regulation time" last night got me to wondering what purpose the term "regulation time" serves. Rick falls into it occasionally, and I sometimes hear/read people say so and so scored with six minutes left in regulation time. What's wrong with "last minute of play in the period/third period" and "scored with six minutes left in the third period"? Quote

That phrasing came in when the league added OT back in the 80's after getting rid of it during WWII. Just meant to highlight that the game COULD, but not necessarily would, go to overtime / extra time to those poor souls that went to the game but didn't have access to this site to make sure they were all aware of that possibility. ? Why that phrasing of regulation time rather than the 3rd period? Pretty sure, that was why. But my Q to you: why not "regulation time?" Quote
Pimlach Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 I remember “last minute of play in the game” in the 3rd period, prior to the current OT era. Quote
shrader Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 Is it "regulation time" or just "regulation"? I guess I never paid much attention, but I don't remember the word time being included. Quote
Hawerchuk Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 I loved Milt. He was the best! Check out this webpage when you get a chance. http://www.staffannouncer.com/miltellis.htm 1 Quote
