Does Botterill make a trade this week?

Colorado might be a sneaky candidate to trade with. Despite their injuries they've got depth scoring. And their defense is a little sketchy. Plus they have cap space.

I think I'd like them as a trade partner.

That's a good question. I proposed Risto for Bennett and Hamonic as a general money in/money out trade, but I probably need a pick or a prospect coming back in that trade from Calgary too.

Hamonic is a UFA after this season.  That's one minus.  Maybe Andersson?  That way it is a general Rasmus in/ Rasmus out trade.

That's kinda where I was going with it. It's just a cap dump for Calgary to make space and then it comes off of our books sooner or later.

Bennett's defensive numbers aren't bad. He'd be an upgrade on Sobotka at least...

I've always been an ardent Risto supporter, but this weekend was the camel that broke my straw back.  I saw what you saw essentially, and I have really lost all hope in him becoming much of anything outside of minute muncher.

I'm just not interested in another hopefully maybe possibly half-measure. Fix the forwards or don't, but I don't need Botterill selling me a bill of goods.

I'm sure he wants to make a trade. As they say it takes at least one partner and he knows a bad trade would likely put him in the hot seat. We've gone through enough coaches and whatever the problems are it's not going to fall on coaching. It will be the GM next to go in my opinion.

Good post, good topic. The @deluca67 .500 paradigm continues to be a useful one, for me. It's not a determinative value, but, as a practical matter, it has proven to be a reliable signpost of whether your team's headed in the right direction.

P.S./Edit: Just looking at last year's final standings. The teams that made the playoffs were all above @deluca67 .500. The good teams were well above it. The teams that squeaked in were a few games clear of it.

(Flyers in 2016 made the playoffs and finished at DeLuca .500.)

(I think these are the exceptions that prove the rule.)
