There was discussion of this goal recently, because it's one some of us had never seen. They showed it on the broadcast tonight. This is my crude attempt at creating an animated gif. Maybe someone can come along with a better version.

Each frame is actually hand drawn in charcoal, then lovingly colorized and digitized. I do what I can do.

It's very reminiscent of the Soviet goalie on Eruzione's goal. I think it was Eruzione's.

I think you're right, with the obvious caveat about how much better goalies are now. The old-timers just seemed to have more tricks in the bag. I've seen so many situations this year where a backhand was called for, but the player passed up the shot. Is the old saying about the backhand being the toughest shot for the goalie to face no longer valid? I also seem to recall Rico being brought in as shooting coach or something under Ruff.
