Your 7-1-1 Buffalo Sabres play the 2nd leg of a west coast back to back/home to home game against the San Jose Sharks. After a successful road trip of winning the last 2 games and being the #1 team in the Eastern Conference and tied for the #1 spot in the League and the fancy stats not showing so far that this is not a total contradiction to the actual truth, this wouldn't be The Aud Club without wanting someone kicked off the 2nd line, preferably someone on the 3rd line also and our resident DMan who still sucks but we expect a top 6 forward in return for a trade and our top line just isn't holding up in 5v5. Meanwhile the Sabres are 4-0 at home and hopefully that trend will continue tonight. All 4 lines are contributing in different ways and in different games, another trend we'd like to see continue. Are this years Sabres as good as the teams below, probably not but Dream On sabres fans (Dream On)*.

1st in Goals For 354, 2nd in Goal Differential 114, 1st in Adams Division, 8 players with over 60 points scored, Jerry Korab just missed with 56 (which for a DMan has only been beaten by Phil Housley in Sabre History), Gary Bromley (4) and Roger Crozier (2) (Bromley actually played twice as many regular season games) were credited with 6 assists that year (Gerry Desjardins who only played 9 regular season games actually played ¾ of playoff games the other ¼ by Crozier).  4 players made the All-Star game, Rene Robert, Rick Martin, Don Luce and Jerry Korab. Rick Martin was 1st team NHL All Star Team and Rene Robert was 2nd team. Largest increase in points from previous year 37.

(06’-07’) 113 Points in 82 games

1st in League In Points (only Sabre team to do so), 1st in Northeast Division, 1st in Eastern Conference, 6 players with over 60 points, set an NHL record of 10 straight road wins, tied an NHL record of winning their 1st 10 games before losing in a shootout. 3 members made All Star game team, Daniel Briere who also was MVP of game, Brian Campbell and Ryan Miller. Traded Marty (blue eyed) Biron at trade deadline. Made them 2nd because although tied in most points ever with 74’75’ team, they played 2 more games.

     

(79’-80’) 110 Points in 80 games

1st in Adams Division, 1st in Prince of Wales Conference, drafted Mike Ramsey and Lindy Ruff with their 1st 2 picks, finished the season on a 14 game point streak, Jim Schoenfeld won NHL Plus/Minus Award (yes they gave those out back then) Bob Sauve and Don Edwards won the Vezina Trophy, all time Sabre Goal Differential season record +117, Danny Gare was NHL Goals Leader, Don Edwards, Danny Gare, Jim Schoenfeld were 2nd Team NHL All Stars, Bob Sauve posted league’s lowest goals against average

     

(05’-06’) 110 Points in 82 games

2nd Largest increase in points from previous full season 25. 2nd in Northeast Division, 3rd in Eastern Conference. Record was 7-8 in first 15 games than went on to lose only 8 of their next 50 games. Only had 2 players play all 82 games, Ales Kotalik who ended up being 3rd leading scorer and LD Henrik Tallinder who broke his arm in the 3rd game of the Eastern Conference Finals and at the time was a +14 and led all players in the playoffs that year. Lindy Ruff was named the Jack Adams Award winner for coach of the year in the closest voting for this award up to that time.

(89’-90’) 98 Points in 80 games 

Just to break up the 70’s teams and the 00’ teams. The team’s leading scorer was Pierre Turgeon who was tied in goals with D.Andreychuk with 40 and also had 66 assists. The team was 2nd in the Adams Division and 2nd in the Eastern Conference. This season featured the NHL debuts of Alex Mogilny, Rob Ray and Donald Audette. The team had a stretch in late October to early November where they won 13 lost 2 and tied 3. Daren Puppa, Pierre Turgeon, Phil Housley and Dave Andreychuk made the NHL All Star Game and Daren Puppa was NHL 2nd team All Star.

I've been avoiding all things Sabres for the last week while they were on the west coast so I could watch the games the next day without spoilers. I may have to go back to the GDT for the excellent history details from jsb.

 

Sabres are undeated at home, and hopefully that will continue. I'm sure San Jose is going to come out hard to win in our barn after losing to us in theirs though. Should be a good game.

I am really glad they are back on the east coast. I didn't get to see the live games in the west coast and I knew the score when I did watch, which makes it less exciting

I hadn't thought much about it before I saw this but I haven't seen a lot of switching up during games most other coaches do and a reflection on I believe a RK vs. PH difference. 

I am digging the RK viva la difference.

That was his reputation coming in, Duds.  Some people were concerned that if things didn't click Krueger would be hesitant to make changes, that it was up to the lines to work it out and that's that.

It seems like that is in fact the case, and the lines are working it out. 

It's all new and fresh right now though.  Will there come a time in the season when changing up the lines will be warranted?
