miles Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) Do you guys think Ullmark will realistically become an elite goalie in the future or is he going to be a middle of the road guy. I always thought he would be when he was with the amerks. I'm curious what you guys think. I really like this guy and hope he becomes something special Or do you guys think we wait to see how luukkonen develops Edited September 13, 2019 by miles Quote
LGR4GM Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) No. I think he will be better than last season though. He is probably a decent stopgap to get us to Luukkonen but unless he really improves, probably not going to be elite. Starter maybe but not elite. Luukkonen has the chance to be elite though. Eleven Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Nope. By this point in numerous goaltenders' careers, I knew they'd be elite. I don't see it with Ullmark. Quote
Radar Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Definitely don't believe he will be elite. I'm concerned he won't be average let alone elite. 2 Quote
Curt Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) No, I don’t think so. I think he will be a decent backup/fringe starter. Goalies are strange though, so maybe he can be a good NHL starter. Elite would be highly unlikely, I would think. Seems like a heck of a nice guy though, so I’m rooting for him. Sabres Fan in NS Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 No. Not elite, but a decent starter and a very solid backup / fill in when the Sabres are good in a few years. I think that guy with the long name that starts with 'L' will be an excellent starting goalie, maybe elite. Quote
SHAAAUGHT!!! Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 I think he may have an “elite” season or two in him. His ceiling is still high even at 26 - goalie development is strange like that. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Hoping this goalie coach gets results like the claim is that good goalie coaches can get Quote
Huckleberry Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 I think he will be a good back up, but if he doesn' t perform this year as a starter. UPL will be here in january. Quote

I dont think he will be with the Sabres this year either. I thought he had hip surgery and would be starting later than the rest of the team 1 Quote

Zamboni Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Ullmark will be a solid NHL backup for most of his career. He may have a year or two where he’s considered a starting goalie. But overall, he’ll spend most of his career as a backup. Quote

darksabre Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 I project Linus as Marty Biron 1 Quote
miles Posted September 13, 2019 Author Report Posted September 13, 2019 Thanks guys for the replies. I really like ullmark so I guess I was hoping he was better than he actually was. Quote
Zamboni Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Just now, darksabre said: I project Linus as Marty Biron Marty came to mind for me as well, but I thought better of it, because I think Marty was just more talented than Ullmark is/will be. Neither are/were elite. 1 Quote
Huckleberry Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 Big year for him anyway, he needs to win the starting job. 1 Quote
Weave Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 IMO he’s about 50/50 to ever be considered an NHL starting goalie. Quote
msw2112 Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 I think he has the potential to be a solid NHL goalie, a quality backup for sure and possibly a decent starting goaltender. At this point, I don't see him becoming elite. I assume elite means one of the top handful of goalies in the league and/or a perennial all-star. If he remains a Sabre, I hope that I am wrong and the he does become elite! Quote
dudacek Posted September 13, 2019 Report Posted September 13, 2019 He still has a chance, IMO. Last year was a tale of two goalies. His emergence is probably necessary to making the playoffs this year. Really pulling for him. Good dude. Quote
