I'm absolutely starved of hockey content and I'm sure many of you are, too. This idea popped into my head so I'm going with it.

Going into this NHL season, who are your top ten NHLers? All positions apply. These are the guys who you think will have the ten best/most effective seasons.

Mine will not have any goalies, because while I believe goalies have a huge impact on the game relative to any individual skater, it's too hard to pick which one will be great any given year. Gibson would be my guy though.

1.) Connor McDavid
2.) Sidney Crosby
3.) Patrice Bergeron
4.) Aleksander Barkov
5.) Mark Stone
6.) Nathan MacKinnon
7.) Brayden Point
8.) Erik Karlsson
9.) Nikita Kucherov
10.) Sean Couturier

Can't argue with 9 of your 10.  I would swap in Ovi for Bergeron for 3 reasons:

1.  He's a Bruin

2.  He's a Bruin

3.  At 34, I think this is the year where he loses a step.

Ovi is interesting. I think he'd make my top 20...but I like Kane and Marchand more than him on the wing right now. Probably a couple others that I can't think of at the moment. Doing this by position might be fun too, maybe I'll do that later

Isn't the marker for decline 30?  Both Ovi and Patrice are same age - 34.    Since turning 30,  Ovi has averaged 47 goals a year, 80 points a year, and 20 minutes of Ice-time.   Which is exactly 17 more goals a year, 13 more total points a year, and almost a minute of TOI than Patrice.  Also more durable playing an average of 9 more games a year than Bergeron.   He's a Captain, and has more cups  during this period (2015-present).   Ovi is in the top 5 until he isn't.  Showing no signs of decline.  If anyone is going to fall off, it's Patrice

Oh, and if hasn't been mentioned, he's a Bruin.

We're on the same page.  And I could have added several more reasons, but I didn't want to be redundant.

Pretty good list. Not that I disagree with anyone on the list but, NHL.comhas a TOP 20 Centers thingie out. Sean Couturier doesn't make the list.

Couturier definitely should be in the top 10. The deeper you dive on his numbers and contributions the better he looks. Not being in the top 20 centres is a joke, but NHL network never had good lists.

Thanks! I'm not surprised he escaped, and I probably have him too high overall. I just really love the elite two-way forwards. Cup winners come in all shapes and sizes, but they always seem to have one of those guys.

As much as I love a good debate with you, we have a remarkably similar taste in hockey players.

My way of interpreting a 'Top 10' is by asking the question, which 10 players in the league do teams focus their strategy around neutralizing?  There are players who meet this metric who are just on trash teams (like Eichel), but that doesn't mean they are any less dangerous in a vacuum.

1.) Connor McDavid
2.) Sidney Crosby
3.) Alex Ovechkin
4.) Jack Eichel
5.) Aleksander Barkov
6.) Nikita Kucherov
7.) Artemi Panarin
8.) Nathan MacKinnon
9.) Mathew Barzal
10.) John Tavares

Yes, all centers and wingers.  Karlson has fallen off a cliff.

Lemieux... Gret.... oh you mean current lineup... just waiting for my CT measurements for treatment... and in a mood...

I would switch a couple off this list though if I was building a team for forwards this list would be close... I would sub Wheeler for Barkov, better goal scorer... Barzal and Jack have to be in there somewhere subbing out Karlsson and maybe Bergeron...

Think you need a separate list of top six D.

Karrlson, Hedman, Doughty, Dahlin, one of the St Louis D... they have 3 that are close but different styles and probably MacAvoy cough cough a Bruin..

Burns scored over a point a game as a Dman, I don't know how he doesn't make the list.

I really liked Wheeler two seasons ago, but I think he's a bit of a headache captain, and even though he still scored a lot this year, my impression is he definitely fell off.

I just reeeeeally don't like Burns in his own zone. He's in my top 10 D though.

And I know, I know, EK isn't great there either, but he's better and when he's on he's the best defenseman in the offensive zone that I've ever had the privilege of watching
