Sure, but you need the Cap to cooperate. The Sabres Cap is going to be great for the first time in YEARS. Just look at it. It's like paying off a mortgage.

We had the cap space this summer, or could have had the cap space this summer, if Botterill wanted it to be so. Just because we have more next summer doesn't mean he's going to use it to upgrade the top 6.

That's actually kinda scary. That's like 10 important roster spots that will immediately need to be filled with good NHL players. is that even possible

They are to be filled with development, I'm sure.

Why wouldn't he? That's what it's for.

We've been saying this for years.

We have.  But Botterill kind of has started doing that last season.  Skinner & Montour into top line & top pairing last season.  Miller &  Johansson into 2nd line/2nd pairing this off-season.  With the hope that Thompson (unrealistic IMHO) & Jokiharju (quite realistic, again, IMHO) can also grow within the next 1-2 seasons into top 6/ 2nd pairing roles.

That doesn't include guys that have been drafted to eventually fill top 6/4 roles.  At least 1 of which is already in that role &  at least 2 more have very reasonable chances of also bring there (though 1 may be forced to be top 9 just because you can't play 3 top 2 centers).

And it seems so d*mn slow, because Botterill totally changed the style of player the organization is looking for.

Man.  That Canadian spelling of Center throws me off every time.

I'm still not over the incorrect spelling of Sabers.

Well it's for paying players, not necessarily FA. He could use it to upgrade the top 6 in trades/other ways, but everything he's said and done indicates he won't spend big on FA

I certainly appreciate your optimism.

I appreciate also that comment will probably come off disingenuous, but it's not. I just don't have any strong conviction personally it'll be the case.

And for this you need a partner. And you need the tradeable assets. None of which are a guarantee.

Not getting into ROR again (please!) but his top 6 has seen one real talent out, one real talent in. Status quo. 3 summers as GM.

I can't complain about the defence.

I expect it would be trades.

Who are the 3 players here? Just wondering.

2 top 6 talents out. He also let Kane walk without a replacement, unless you want to consider Berglund, Sobotka, or Thompson to be top 6 players.
