No.  In a prior CBA it was choose between the 2.  Hasn't been that way for a long time.

I'm doing a little digging on this since I never remember that to be the case in the NHL.  So far, the furthest I've checked so far is this from 1993, which mentions the arbitrator being able to pick any number within the range.  It does mention some changes in 1992, but I'm too lazy to go back any further.  That's far enough back to the point where I wouldn't have had any clue what salary arbitration was.

I think ERod is ok but he's not worth the concern and definitely not worth his number.

Or did you hear the one about the 11424 American and Canadian soldiers (including my 2nd cousin) buried at Normandy who gave their lives to liberate France from the Germans in WW2.  Our debt to Lafayette has been paid many times over.

I’ve never seen Hamilton, I’m just not too keen on belittling the French. I served when plenty of Frenchmen in Afghanistan who were just as brave as any American. The point of allies isn’t in-debtedness, it’s solidarity. When we need the French they are there for us. When the French need us, it is our duty to come running (or parachuting because ***** legs)

E-Rod is a solid middle-6 forward with NHL caliber offensive skill.  A player of that ilk is worth somewhere in the $2M per year range, which is right in between E-Rod's number and the Sabres' number.  I suspect that the arbitrator will award him something around that number and everyone will be happy.  Alternatively, his agent and the team will agree to it on their own prior to the hearing, and everyone will be happy.  The Sabres are protecting their interests (salary cap and Pegula's checkbook) by bidding a little bit low and E-Rod is protecting his by bidding a little high (get as much as you can, when you can).  It will all work out.  Not much of a news story here, but it's the off-season.

And I have no comments about the French, but I can verify that a pair of tickets to Hamilton on Broadway run in the same price range as E-Rod's contract.  My wife and I had a bit of a spat about it last time we were in NYC.  She wanted to go at all costs and I refused to pay almost $1,000 per ticket.

Please, Please enough with this nationalistic stuff. Frankly, if it wasn't for the Russians (who I believe lost more lives) we wouldn't have won the war. We should realize the sun doesn't rise and set on us. Before you get bent out of shape I served and I'm not putting down anyone but my opinion and emotions aren't based on what my relatives may have done although I respect them. Just seems there's a lot of flag wavers who haven't served in fact a few are ones who dodged the draft because of family connections. Okay, that's my rant.

Not blinded at all by him or his mindless narcissistic views. We need to appreciate our allies although we may not view the world exactly the same. Orange man is brainless , who thanks to daddy, has money. When you used socialist in your comment I get where your coming from. We have our system of economics and they have theirs. So what does that have to do with it?

Ugh, ERods thread was hijacked after a few funny stereotype jokes about the French. They are a solid ally, but their military has been a joke many times in history. The French Resistance on the other hand kicked ass. 

I am a tad confused though how a talk about a US player and a Czech ended up talking about politics and the French.

ERod was compared to a Swiss Army Knife. GASabreFan ad libbed his well rehearsed comment regarding A French Military Knife consisting of a corkscrew, fork and white flag. I made a perfectly appropriate and immensely funny comment along the same lines and off we went.
