Ho-Chi-Sock Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) JBot should be fired for this signing. He was suppose to completely neglect the 2C so that he could he fired at the end of the season for not upgrading the 2C. What is he thinking?!? Edited July 6, 2019 by Ho-Chi-Sock 1 Quote
Randall Flagg Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Eichel Skinner Reinhart Mitts Vesey Rodrigues Johansson Larsson Zemgus Kyle Sheary Olofsson is a full roster, but it's not a roster I'd be happy with. We need that one last big splash at forward, and then we can see where things fall into place. 2 Quote

The problem is, only Risto - Mitts - Reinhart have any value that are likely to bring back a 2C in return; Mitts isn't going anywhere as Botts first pick, and I really, really don't wanna lose Reinhart Quote
Doohicksie Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Leino had one good year (the year prior to Buffalo getting him). Other than that, he sucked. Johansson has been consistently..... okay, not earth shattering. He's probably a 40 point guy give or take. I would take 40. Quote
thewookie1 Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 At the price we got him for, I think its a solid move. We now, at minimum, have a solid fallback option at 2C which is better than just holding onto the hope we'd magically get a 2C for free. 1 Quote

triumph_communes Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Two year term on a guy begging for 5 and his comparable all got 4 or 5 year deals? Amazing! No downside to the contract whatsoever. I believe Mittelstadt will still be 2C and he will be fine, and Johansson will be his backup center in a pinch or if he’s struggling too much. They’re both lefties and can alternate through that role. Quote
darksabre Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 Welp, second line LW. I'm not a big fan but at least it's a short deal. Quote
triumph_communes Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 To the stats people—- he came back from injury when traded too soon and he wasn’t clicking. He finally got it together for the playoffs for them. I wouldn’t put much into his regular season with Boston stats. 1 Quote
dudacek Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) So the theme for this summer continues to be add real NHL players I don’t happen to particularly like at reasonable prices, adding to the overall depth and talent level without properly addressing our biggest issue. This deal kinda puts us in a position where we can no longer easily weaponize cap space. We have about $7 million left that our RFAs will largely eat up. Doesnt change the likelihood of making a Risto for a 2C type deal at all though. Makes it easier to add a plus. Edited July 6, 2019 by dudacek 2 Quote
Doohicksie Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 He, and Reino, may be the training wheels for Mitts. Two experienced wingers that can play some center. 3 Quote
WildCard Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 I keep trying to figure out this lineup and I can't Skinner - Eichel - Sheary Olofsson/Johansson - ?? - Reinhart Vesey - Mitts - Erod Zemgus - Larsson - Okposo Quote
Scottysabres Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 So, are we looking at Mittelstadts LW'er on the 3rd line then? Quote

But if it means that's the answer for second line, I'm not thrilled. I'd still like to see a high end 2C and let Mitts and his training wheels train on the third line. If they click then you have three scoring lines and the Sabres are good. Quote

DarthEbriate Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 If there's a second line center in the universe, we're still on the roster that it's farthest from. 4 Quote

If Risto really has no value to get a 2C from someone, might as well blanket Mitts as much as possible and hope for the best Also, Tanev got $3.5M/6 years, just saying Quote
pastajoe Posted July 6, 2019 Report Posted July 6, 2019 It could be a step in the process of freeing up a winger to be traded as part of a deal for a center. 3 Quote
