French Collection Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 Almost $3M a year more than Couturier. They really wanted Hayes. Couturier contract is not up for a while but he would be worth $9M AAV in that comparison. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 19, 2019 Author Report Posted June 19, 2019 The concern is that Hayes improved after AV was fired and Quinn took over as AV insisted on using him in a defensive role Quote

I agree with Brawndo that the fit with Vigneault might not be great, but otherwise yea, it's basically market value. In a market where Evander Kane is a $7M player, Skinner is a $9M player, it makes sense to me that a 2C slots in at around $7M. 1 Quote

But such is often the case with UFA deals, I suppose. Edited June 19, 2019 by Thorny Quote

Ducky Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 50m for 7 years for Hayes? Wow, just wow. Quote

Feel like I'm the only one that thinks that's a pretty big overpayment. He's cracked 50+ points twice in his 6 year career, and a brief glance shows his possession numbers aren't exactly Bergeron level. I don't get the love for this guy 2 Quote

I don't get the love for this guy Glad we’re not paying it, but I’m not surprised by this. There is about $300 million in cap space out there to spend; supply and demand means the top guys are going to get overpaid. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 ^ Good content on the Hayes signing. I agree with those who are saying, in essence, "the money is a function of the position he will (be expected to) occupy on a team's roster." Maybe as much as anything, this reflects the extent to which an NHL team wants/needs a 2C to be on a cost-controlled contract. Muh-muh-muh-Mittlestadt? Quote
