Also, another Montreal legend, Kenny Dryden.

Was called up in March of ‘71 and went on to win playoff MVP and the cup, then followed up by winning the Calder for rookie of the year in 72.

I love his story so much that I voted for him for Parliament.

I tried searching for an open thread but decided to start a fresh discussion.  Does last night get Binnington the Calder?  I believe it does.  What do you folks think?

Playoffs don't count

The NHL and the PHWA try very hard not to give awards to goaltenders.  Remember how baffling it was that Hasek did not win the Hart year after year?

A certain rookie goalie won the cup back in the 80s and then immediately stuck the ring in his ear so he didn't have to listen to Jeremy Roenick anymore.  And speaking of that team, Ken Dryden won the cup and then won the Calder the following year.  Let's see someone top that.

And he beat Rick Martin, who had just set a rookie record of 44 goals.  I'm still upset over that.

Rick Martin was not a rookie in the 1980s.

I'm aware of that, I watched him play as a rookie. However Ken Dryden won the calder the year Martin was a rookie. Which is what I was commenting on.
