Lol. Another reason to keep Risto. We need Fins to balance our Swedes.  Also how great will it be for RJ.

Risto, UPL, Routsa, Oskari mashed up with Asplund, Dahlin, Olofsson, and Nylander.  Throw is a bunch of college boys and wow you have a hockey team.

Is this Jbots cheap solution to the 2nd line center issue or just another log for the fire to increase competition?

He's not a 2nd line center by any means, at least not to start. Seems to me to be an Asplund type addition, though with admittedly higher offensive upside

Oh no, we need them both on the team.  I want to hear both RJ and Rob fumble over the names!  ?

Looks like we can bank on a foreign dman joining us every offseason from now until the end of time. I’m fine with that.

He's a 21 year old left-handed Finnish C/LW. 5'8, 181lbs

If Liifga is the Finnish top league, which I believe it is, then he's already played two years there

Rookie season: 9-11-20 in 60gp

Sophomore season: 21-21-42 in 59gp

I think it's rakish that has the conversion formula for points from league to league

I literally read that he was a forward but still made him a defenseman. Reading comprehension.

My bad I completely forgot to scan that thread before starting this one.

NHL equivalency from Liiga to NHL is 0.43.

Arttuututtu Ruotteewasalianenesnen's 42 points in 59 Liiga games could be about 25 points in 82 NHL games.

Any idea what it is from SHL to NHL?

Also, AHL to NHL? Curious to see Olofsson and Asplund

I usually use Vollman's numbers, which are a year or two old:

Olofsson (63 points in 66 AHL games) is about 37 points.  Asplund (41 points in 75 AHL games) is about 21 points.

Don't be, I rarely read the mega-threads these days and never would have seen this.

At 5'8", hoping for Ruotso to step in at 2C is a mighty...tall order.

Don't (Ger)be so negative, I'm sure he'll measure up.

I would take anyone in a charity bet that Olofsson puts up more than 37 points next season, though I generally agree with the projections.

Small fry. He just may top out as a very good AHLer with some cups of coffee in the NHL due to injuries and “good job” rewards. But anything else is bonus!

IF he even signs...

Someone somewhere said no. Maybe rutatuielainin is like Smith in the states.

Kind of. It's more like a Johnson or John's son kind of thing. So many of their names end in the lainen suffix. In the old naming traditions it relates to whose son they are or where they are from. Not that it matters :)

Good though, hope we add him to the potential talent pool.

Depends on who he ends up playing with I think and if they use him on the PP.

Nice.  Gotta take your chances on guys like this, college and euro free agents.  Casey Nelson, CJ Smith, Evan Rodrigues, Victor Antipin, Lawrence Pilut.  Sometimes they turn into nothing, sometimes good AHLers, sometimes legit NHL players.

How about this one.

So we know that Botterill loves his Finns and his Swedes.  What is even better?  How about a Finnish player whose name is ‘Swedish’?  How could you not sign a guy like that?

Seriously, this guy Ruotsalainen, his last name is ‘Swedish’ in Finnish.  Ruotsalainen translates to ‘Swedish’.  Got it?  He is Finnish and his name is literally Arttu ‘Swedish’.

Botterill just wrote a blank check.
