This place gets super ugly in times like these.  Everyone's hopes and dreams for the Sabres are simultaneously shattered and they come here the vent. I usually withdraw my presence as the negativity and absurdity is too much.

Try finding the comical side. Like now that ROR is gone it’s one less DUI Western New York has to worry about. I’m sure women who go bar hopping are happy about Kane leaving. On top of that nobody is losing their love for the game or taking random shots off the wall.

What is wrong with you ROR/Kane worshippers ? go buy a fortune cookie for crying out loud

God it pisses me off reading of this,

"What if we had ROR!"
"Look, ROR scored OT winner for St louis 11th  straight win, told you so!"

St louis started really bad, as Buffalo were playing really well.
Buffalo had 10 wins in a row, St Louis had what was it, 7 straight losses and were dead last(?) Where were your posts about ROR then?

These are just pathetic exuses, to somehow exuse your own dissatisfaction. So please stop, because you cant tell the future no matter how much you would like to.
Yes, we could have done great with ROR and Kane still in the loop, but we could also done just as bad as we are now, nor i or you know the facts of this.

It is what it is with Buffalo Sabres, obviously, and has been for ages now. Eventually it will probably turn around
This team needs real men with manners, real captain material is what we need and dont have. This team is really hurting because noone tends to lead them, Jack is way to young imo, eventhough it looks like he is trying.

For me i have taken a step back, have not watched last 2 games and i will not watch the rest either becuase it tends to piss me off more than trying to stay positive, which is really hard because im seeing the same ***** happening to Buffalo Sabres as what happened with MODO Hockey, and it started from the top with MODO Hockey, it wasnt the players, it was the club it self that lost the red thread within, and that gave the result year after year on the ice no matter how good players got recruited.

To be successful you need to build from within with passion and faith, patience and trust, and that is what i believe Jbot is doing. I want Phil gone, but if Jbot believes i will believe, cause if he manage to make this red thread work all the way down to echl, it will eventually give us what we need.

Buffalo Sabres has my heart for sure, its just that this season hopes are way to high for most of us, atleast for me.

I’m try to be more pragmatic.  The fact is these discussions are still pertinent even though the deal is past tense.  In order to appraise the state of our current team, one must take inventory of past moves made.  It’s very important.  So “whining” about it.  Yeah I get that.  But assessing our current managements abilities to assess and make right moves?  It’s a big deal right now.

I see other threads calling it toughness, heart, Intensity, not playing for each other, etc...

Watching the NHL channel of ex Hockey players describe the Sabre's play of late they say they are playing without any urgency. Watching other hockey games and teams that's exactly what I see as well. Montreal, TO, Boston, Tampa, NYI, also now NYR, Hurricanes, Florida, playing on their toes playing with urgency and passion up and down the ice. Several of these teams are no bigger or much more skilled than the current Sabre's.

Of course it starts with having players that have some of that in their DNA(hate to lose) but isn't that how all these guys supposedly made it to this level?

But I also hear watching the NHL channel pundits talk about how coaching on these top teams demand it. If its not there players sit, are removed from prominent roles/given lesser roles. They promote the effort vs. the going through the motions under achieving.  If a coach isn't consistent on what he expects, wants done and how he communicates and enforces it with all the players then how does the overall team respond if you don't manage everyone's time, role and chances the same. This is the Head coaches main job.

This is where our coaching/management has not helped much this season. How long before players were or should have been sent to Rochester, players were taken off the PP1, moved to PP2 or off it altogether, playing the same players or lines for so many games when execution and performance wasn't where it needed or should be.

That's where you create the teaching moments, assuming your position coaches work with said player for what is expected and reinforce things you know they can do better and what they can do to improve.  Do you really have any other tools to motivate a players performance.

If a player is happy sitting vs. playing because he wasn't playing right then do you really want him on your team?

Having watched all season and doing all the same head scratching I have read here about which players are or are not playing in what roles on what lines, whose up vs whose down at this point I guess I am not real surprised. These Sabre's still do not look or act like a team that are putting forth the the same efforts, urgency and passion for what they do and for each other night in and night out.

Sad its their profession but lately looks more like a beer league on too many nights.

Kane was not going to sign.  Bots got a first rounder in a tough market.  Lets move on.

ROR is more complex.  I never liked the return, a big part of it was St Louis eating his bonus.  ROR never played on winning team in the NHL and wanted out.  His crying to media was part of it.

That ROR trade keeps looking worse and worse. Every win they string together makes our draft pick that much worse. Maybe they'll have a twist of fate after their streak similar to the Sabres?

Our luck will have the Sharks finish 3rd overall and the blues 4th somehow.

Thanks MODO.  Well said.  I agree with you 100%.  Some people have chosen to fixate on the ROR trade and cannot move past it.  Neither ROR nor Kane would make a difference on the current roster.  It's flawed from years of mismanagement.  I have faith in JBOTT (maybe not Housley, but definitely JBOTT).  He is going to rebuild through the draft strengthening the farm system first.  It will be slow, maybe too slow for some people on this board.  It's going to happen though.

Trust in the process and hope for a little luck along the way.  And for those worrying about wasting Jack's good years, just remember he's 22.  He's not going to hit his prime until his mid to late 20's.  We've got time and a few good pieces already in the system.

Stay positive SS.

I'm not comfortable blaming JBots fully for the Kane and O'Reilly trades. Aside from the obvious (Tim Murray), some of the blame may need to go to our sanctimonious owners who likely forced JBots to run these two out of town for their off-the-ice behavior.

Many Sabres' fans tend to fixate on a particular player (or players).  They scream for them to play better or get traded, then weep and whinge when they are traded.  NHL hockey is now a "what have you done for us lately" business; you can't afford to get too attached to a particular player.  Unfortunately, many of us (yes, me too) do get a little too attached. More unfortunately, this seems to extend to the front office, coaching staff and yes, the owners.

If the Sabres hope to ever win a Stanley Cup, the team management has to learn to be brutal - you play hard or you leave town.  We are coming up on the team's 50th anniversary.  When the team came into the league, I was in middle school; I will be retiring from my job soon.  That's a very, very long time to be a fan and to get very little in return (especially lately).  The original owners/management took an expansion team and built a Cup finalist in five seasons. We're right where we were five seasons ago with no real end in sight.  Yeah, times have changes, but you still win hockey games by playing with urgency and passion.  Another word for it is...pride.  Where is the pride on this team?

Which is why I've been pretty much completely avoiding the GDTs after we're close to puck drop.  Too busy to add to the frustration (or more accurately, disappointment) that would bring on top of already having watched the game.

And yet, people here continue to complain about Svbotka getting ice time. I don't have an opinion on his play as I've been letting my NHL.tv subscription go to waste for months, but if the coach did demote people that weren't trying, the fans here would just complain about that.

It is funny to me that the ROR and Kane deals are now being brought up as examples of toughness or character we are missing. Umm, short memories guys, we were not tough with them and we definitely lacked character. So go figure.

Not toughness or character....just talent
