I.E., pass out of the prime real estate into the cheap stuff for shot attempts from there. It happens all the time. This is exactly right. The number of times the Sabres cycle in the offensive zone and effectively get a man open in the slot, and then instead of shooting they try a cross ice pass to the guy on the half-wall or a drop pass to the point for the shot. The whole point of zone possession is to get a shot in the spot you are standing - why are you passing?!? It was very apparent in the Blackhawks game on Friday. At times the Sabres dominated zone possession and had prime scoring opportunities that were passed up for bad shots, which missed the net and sprung the counter-attack odd man rush. It was infuriating to watch. Quote
darksabre Posted February 4, 2019 Report Posted February 4, 2019 They're bad at playing a simple game. They might have skill, but they don't do the basics very well. Scoring pretty goals is fun. But scoring ugly goals is necessary. Skinner isn't getting the rebound opportunities he was getting during the streak and it shows. Jack and Sam need to do a better job of generating chances. They aren't dangerous enough every time they're on the ice. And they let other teams box them out of the middle way too easily. Quote
