and not having their 1st round pick this draft either. Someone needs to tell Ottawa tanking only helps if you still have your own pick.

What were they supposed to do? Let the UFA's they traded walk for nothing?

no trading away most of their talent and watching Colorado draft Hughes with their first overall pick is just dandy. I was kinda making light of the situation, chill out.

Just asking what people thought they would do? They basically had to get what they could and try not to make a bad mistake worse. They will be in on the Lafraniere sweepstakes next year at least.

I think of the years when the Sabres were really down, the light at the end of that tunnel was the promise of getting the #1/#2 overall pick. I can't imagine as a fan watching a DFL team knowing the "fruits" of your suffering will be realized by another team.
