dudacek Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 Insert “I thought he retired three years ago” joke here. Seriously, dude played his ass off for a long time with minimal skills. Good on him. 6 Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 He was a good, although not very skilled, soldier. Good enough to have a long career in the NHL. I have said it before and I will always remember what he did. He will always have a special place in my heart because he waived his NTC to come to the Sabres and not to go to Toronto when he was traded from Montréal. 6 Quote

bob_sauve28 Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 Good guy, hard worker and a leader. Not a great player, but not anywhere near the worst defenseman we had on the team during the tank. This is an echo from the past to remind us how far we have come on defense. I think Andrej Meszaros was the worst Quote

He was a skilled D for the NHL, but skilled in a way that's fallen out of favor. 15 years ago he'd still be playing, just the game has moved to focus on things that weren't his forte. And yes, waving his NTC for Buffalo will always be remembered because it's the Ultimate Insult to da Leafs. https://torontosun.com/2014/07/01/josh-gorges-trade-the-ultimate-insult-to-maple-leafs/wcm/c4fd401b-0a28-42a7-b8e8-5454c549d0fb 1 1 2 Quote
Taro T Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 Darn shame he got fed into the meat grinder that was the top defensive defenseman duty during a tank/rebuild there from. Probably knocked 3 years off his career. As others have said, he was a heck of a soldier for the B&G. Hope he has a successful next phase of his life. Quote
Doohicksie Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 It seemed like he was always our best guy to shut down McDavid for some reason. Quote
Thorner Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 I'll always remember that one game where he took McDavid's lunch money. In several years it'll be nothing more than a myth. 1 Quote

If you can play (out of necessity) against guys that are twice as fast as you, a guy going 2.5 times as fast isn't that much more of a challenge. 1 Quote
Doohicksie Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 He seemed to catch McD just right, in much the same way that teams that play a heavy game are slowing the Sabres down these days. Quote

I think it's McDavid that caught Gorges just right, in much the same way I frequently get held by by slow walkers on sidewalks. Edited January 14, 2019 by Thorny Quote
PerreaultForever Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 the game changed and left him behind. Quote

He was probably SO slow that McDavid had a hard time adjusting to something so unnaturally stationary on the ice. 2 Quote
