Monday, 14 January 2019 the Buffalo Sabres visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. Game starts at 9:00 PM EST.

Oilers are 11th in the Western Conference with a 21-21-3 record. Captain Connor McDavid has 27 goals, 40 assists for 67 points in 44 games played. Impressive considering the dumpster fire that has been Edmonton for a long time. Oilers are 11-10-1 at home and coming off a loss to Arizona.

Sabres are 9th in the Eastern Conference with a 23-16-6 record. Captain Jack Eichel has 15 goals, 34 assists for 49 points in 42 games. Sabres are 9-10-3 away and coming off a double loss weekend. A win tonight and Montreal loss would put us back in 8th. Completely doable provided the Sabres play a complete game.

The number one matchup we are looking forward to is Eichel/McDavid but don’t forget Risto likes to get under the skin of Lucic. Along with Kassian they bring a physical aspect the Sabres seem to have trouble dealing with offensively.

Sabres need to bear down on this first game of a western road trip. Play fast and creative because the Oilers are who they are for a reason.

Apologies on the lineup. It’s the best I could do but I don’t think TT is on Jack’s line. Could be wrong.

MUST MUST WIN!!!

While he was sick yesterday, I would assume he plays tonight. There is no excuse to lose to an Edmonton team that is frankly terrible. Ullmark should be in net but I doubt Housley more and more with each passing day. He might be a good assistant coach but I am not sure he has what it takes to be a good head coach.

While I want the Sabres to show what they can do against a McDavid led team his absence may be what we need to help get on the right track. That’s if he is too sick to play. Either way here’s hoping they play to their potential not Edmonton’s.

What do the ratings in the lineups mean?

"A classification or ranking of someone or something based on a comparative assessment of their quality, standard, or performance."

Boy looking at that Edmonton lineup it really is McDavid and Draisaitl and nothing else (I guess RNH can be in there). It's amazing to me that even with the best player in hockey since Gretzky, the Oilers remain terrible.

If the Sabres don't win a game soon I am going to start losing faith in our playoff chances.

If they don’t win this one I fall to 1-2 for GDTs on the season. That’s when I know we have problems.

I suppose your last one earned you another look.  Kind of like Ellie.

Also, what in the heck is your avatar?  It looks sinister and evil, but maybe it isn't, eh?

+++++

The Oilers are very beatable, but I said the same thing about the Canes.  Lets hope the Sabres bring their 'A' game and get the roadie off to a good start.

MUST WIN!!

GO SABRES!!

It’s a U.S Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor imposed on a skull.

Elie wishes his hockey skills were near my GDTs.

That's cool, but the eagle looks very similar to another eagle used by another organization.  Ya know?

I agree that Ellie has nothing on you in the GDT starting department.

Is it Ellie, or Elie, or some other spelling?

Eagles with outspread wings look similar no matter how they're used.  Usage in emblems goes back millennia. Why go here?

That's the great mystery of Dailyfaceoff.com's lineups.  When I look at the relative ratings between players they don't always pass my eye test.

It is without a doubt the emblem of the USMC.

It's very familiar to Americans, but bear in mind that NS lives in Canada so perhaps the emblem is not so pervasive.

Looks like our only hope is to catch Montreal as everyone else above us has proven that they are legit.

I predict Carolina ends up in the top 8 anyway....

What makes the NY Islanders any more legit than Buffalo or Montreal????

Sorry.  I will delete, but that will not help, as my post has been quoted many times.

Not sure on the spelling. I instantly think it says Ellis.

Ellis is very close, indeed.  And not just in spelling.

No doubt.  Are you a USMC vet?

My uncle was a WWII vet and had an army tattoo, which was an eagle.

So, I am familiar with the symbolism of the eagle.  It has been used as a symbol of strength down through the ages, as @... pointed out.

In the miniature avatar it is clear that it is an eagle and I am not familiar with the emblem of the USMC.  And with the skull the avatar looks very sinister to me.

Again, my apologies and I meant no harm, or offense.

Well, Goal Differential is interesting. The Sabres squeaked out a bunch of one goal games (or so it seems), and then get beat by a few in a lot.

I think I want to see Beaulieu in the line up tonight.

That does not convince me.   If a hot Robin Lehner is their ticket then I will  be happy to wait out his pending collapse.
