Also, those of us that considered his leaving a good thing were looking at it from the perspective of the LT gain of cap space as outweighing the ST hit to talent. Further, he watched several games of the winning streak from the press box & had participated in a few of the following losses prior to walking away. His leaving had less of an effect than Hutton's & Eichel's injuries had. And, his cap hit SHOULD have been replaced. I am honestly baffled that any Sabres fan could give a flyin' crap about any LT benefit of anything, given the decade long "ST" hit to talent that we've experienced. 2 Quote

He can be replaced by someone for much less than he was earning. We were fortunate he quit, regardless of the fact that future ex GMJB should have picked some plug off the waiver wire to replace him in the lineup. Quote

I have never cared about how much a player makes, but 4 mil is not that much for a veteran Swede at a position of need on this team. And he wasn't replaced. Even removing the win streak, the slope on that chart is steeper with him on the team than without him. Quote

Botterill may have thought of him (or Sobotka) as 2nd line center insurance for Mittelstadt but it didn't play out that way for either of them and it's not like Mittelstadt played so well that there wasn't ample opportunity to supplant him. carpandean Posted March 24, 2019 Author Report Posted March 24, 2019 They are now below 2016-17 and are projecting to be below 2015-16. It's likely that this will be the 4th worst season since the 2004-05 lockout (and probably before that), ahead of only the two tank years and last year. ? Quote

It was two months ago when calls for Phil's head started surfacing. Back then, it was pretty easy for Botterill to point to our play as a slump and look at the big picture of a 20-pointplus improvement. We've regressed since then and 80 points looks like a pipe dream. Be tough not to shake things up. Quote
