The emergency goalie needs to be in shape and playing regularly in local elite level league.... source: my adult league goalie is one of the emergency's for the Kings.    The Kings check up on him on a regular basis to make sure he's still in game shape and injury free.     They actually have 4 emergency goalies.    Each game there's 1 for the Kings and 1 for the away team, and they split the games in half throughout the season so he gets to go to half the home games.     He parks under the Staples Center and keeps his gear in his car during the games.    He's only been called on once and didn't even need to dress, just be on standby with his gear bag in a changing room.    He doesn't get any gear from the Kings, nor does he get to dress in the locker room.    He gets 2 tickets in the lower bowl with all-access arena pass, free food, etc.

Sounds like great work, if you can get it.

Sabres PR just tweeted out the Injury Report no Jack or Risto on it.

mcCabe and Nelson are week to week

When Nelson went out, looked like he might have caught a butt end to the ribs.  Expected that he broke a couple.

He was definitely in discomfort.

And it ticked me off that they didn't say anything about it on the NBCSN broadcast until late in the 3rd and that update was only that he wouldn't return.  It was almost as annoying as Kenny Albert saying the Sabres shot wide everytime Anderson made a blocker save from low to the RW.

Interesting - are the emergency goalies designated as "Kings" or "visitor" for each game?

Do they monitor the free food, etc. consumption during the game in case needed?

Does anyone have a URL for video of when McCabe was injured?

Sorry, no.  But the play happened with 11:26 left in the 1st.  Nelson & Kadri go into the corner to the right of Ullmark.  Nelson was leaning heavily into Kadri (to Kari 's right) and when then turn back up ice Nelson is clearly in discomfort favoring his right ribs.

When watching it live thought he'd caught a butt end, but now think he may have had more of a soft tissue tear.  (The injury was opposite where contact between the 2 occurred.). Kind of looked like Nelson was trying to leverage him &  then something popped.

Except for Nelson pulling up lame, the play looked harmless.

And the way he pulled up, looked like whatever the equivalent of a hernia might be.  (Brawndo or Woody, any thoughts?)

Sw comments on butt end but live it looked like opposite side too, either a lat muscle or some soft tissue in his rib cage while trying to get leverage.  Weird but he def tweaked something.

During McCabe's last game I went back on the DVR to look for something.  Saw several non-eventful shifts as far as any physical contact.  I think he skated one shift in the second period and again I looked for any contact...none.  He went to the bench and straight to the locker room.  I honestly thought he had the flu or bad food....just did not see anything obvious to suggest a long-term absence....still a mystery to me.

For the Kings they switch home and away every game, so Alec (the tendy) would be home one game and away the next.

That said I've also played with one of the Duck's emergency goalies.  They only have 2 and he's always the away goalie... So he goes to every home game.   They even gave him pads and a mask...so each team handles it differently.

Alcohol is off limits for Alec before and during games.  The food he gets is down in the players/coaches lounge area so it's generally healthy choices.

We've recalled defenseman Matt Tennyson and goaltender Scott Wedgewood from @AmerksHockey.
