I Remember Imlach Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I'm just curious as someone who attended the first Sabre home game in '70 (we lost to Montreal): how many posters here in the Aud Club remember going to a game in the Aud? 3 Quote

I remember going to the Aud as a kid, but don't remember the game. Probably around '94. We were sitting a couple rows from the top, and I remember being terrified of that near vertical climb. Quote
North Buffalo Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Only 1 hockey game but used save coupons on back of milk cartons and go to 2-3 Braves games a year sitting in the oranges, man those were nose bleeds! 1 Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I have been to many Sabres games in Buffalo (lost count really ... 10+). Every single one of them in that greatest of the great arenas ... The Aud. Quote
All Along The Watchtower Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I've been to many at the Aud but strangely have not been to HSBC or Key Bank or Marine Midland, whatever bank it's called today. It was built after I moved from the area. Quote

I'd forgotten about that! The Braves had to push really hard for attendance in those days. Quote
sabills Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Never went to a game, but I did go to the circus there was I was young. I've said this before, but really my only memory of that place was my mother holding my hand like grim death as we walked down the oranges to our seats. Quote

Started going to the Sabres/Braves games in 72-73 seasons. I remember getting discounted orange tickets but don't remember how. I do remember, "That's 2 for McAdooooooooooooo"! 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 My Dad had partial seasons at The Aud, in the blues, near center ice... went to probably 7 or 8 games a year from 1980-90 until I went away to college. 1 Quote
mphs mike Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Went to a couple Bisons games in their last season and countless Sabres games at the Aud until I moved out of NYS in '83. My first Sabres game was late season against the Blues. It was a weeknight, but cub scouts night. Since I had school thenext day, Dad took me home at the end of the second period. Bert broke the rookie goal record in the third period. I lived within walking distance of the Main Street bus line. Collected many milk cartons and rode the bus with my buddies to watch the Braves. What a magnificent barn that was - I even remember the gray seats and the orange addition. Quote
North Buffalo Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Steep no chair partially in front felt like you were climbing up just to get out. 16 minutes ago, Cheektorado said: 1 Quote

DHawerchuk10 Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 One of the best regular season games I ever saw in the Aud was in '87 against the Oilers on MLK Jr. day. Scotty Arniel won it in OT. I was beside myself with joy. Not only for the rare win that year (especially against the Oilers), but so I could redeem my ticket stub for a free whopper! I also have very fond memories of wandering the halls during the Sabre carnivals. Oh what a joy that was! As others have said above, I still can remember the smell of the place, the weird ramps, the bats that were in the trees outside the building, and staircases that you had to repel down to get to your seats in the oranges. I miss the sounds of whistling instead of booing (why don't we do that anymore?) and Milt Ellis's voice booming across the Aud announcing the winning Perry's Ice Cream thing from the program. 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Actually played some high school games there too 1988-90, Super Sunday! But I'll never forget the first time I played there, I was 7 or 8 years old I think, 1980'ish. Played in one of those between period games that lasted just a few minutes, with the entire team on the ice at the same time. Still remember it like yesterday, was probably the most thrilling moment of my playing career haha. 1 Quote

Formerly Allan in MD Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Went to dozens upon dozens of games in the Aud. Countless memories, especially of the early 50's powerhouse team, when Bisons were a farm of the Canadians, that had eight players with over 20 goals. Quote
bobs0108 Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I remember going to the Aud as a young little whippersnapper many a times. My dad had season tickets in the last row of the oranges behind the goalie. He also got them in the Marine Midlan arena. The one game game that sticks out to me we were in the front row behind the goal judge. I played half the game next to the boards not really watching the game and the goal judge gave me a bunch of Sabres stickers. I also remember a game where Rob Ray dropped his gloves I want to say three times and smashed his opponents. That day is when he became my favorite player. Later on I Hasek was my number 2 I started out thinking he was the luckiest goalie in the world do to his flopping around style, to him being the greatest goalie to play the game. Quote

bobs0108 Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I also loved watching the Bandits play there. I fell in love with Lacrosse watching the Bandits and the Original and better John Tavares. I am so happy that the CT Blackwolfes are a team now 15 minutes from me at the Mohegan Sun Casino. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 I seem to remember going to a Stallions game, or two, as well. Quote

I also use to get free tickets when in high school bc my friend worked for one of the smoke shops on the Reservation that sponsored them. Quote
mphs mike Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 As great as the game memories are, the best memories may be of the Open Practice during the Christmas holiday. 16,433 kids and their mother for practice. Somehow the scrimmage always ended in a tie 1 Quote
caseydean Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 Shared season tickets in the gray section behind the goal starting in 1971-72. Remember Eddie Shack on the program cover up in the air hog tying a Golden Seal. Quote
