Kruppstahl Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 He should be brought along at whatever pace he can naturally handle, and not more. He probably could not have a better HC than Phil Housley, considering he was a phenom Wunderkind puck moving, goal scoring, offense generating defenseman himself. If anyone should be able to keep an eye on Dahlin and manage his ice time/assignments correctly, you would think it would be Housley. Those 2 guys speak a language that very few NHL D-men have ever spoken. 3 Quote
LikeEich Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 Game against Minny you could really see his confidence starting to grow, that's the main goal here. Easier opposition until he really gets comfortable (getting there but his game has another few notches to go yet) then start increasing the workload. Kid is going to be unreal, probably this season it will happen, but if it takes 3 years then that's when he should get the bump up. Quote
Tondas Posted November 18, 2018 Report Posted November 18, 2018 The more Dahlin plays offensively, the better he plays defensively. From the second period on last night when he really turned on the offense, he had few if any turnovers in the D zone. Even as Phil said, "He made some incredible plays. Even coming out of our own end. I would call that defense." Quote
pi2000 Posted November 19, 2018 Report Posted November 19, 2018 (edited) I think it was early in the third, Dahlin made a stretch pass out of his end from behind the net over a stick or two right on the tape of Sobotka speeding accross center ice. It was nifty AF. Edited November 19, 2018 by pi2000 Quote

pi2000 Posted November 19, 2018 Report Posted November 19, 2018 Dahlin has more even strength goals than Patrik Laine. Quote

However, Dahlin hit 10 pts today in just 20 games and it has seemed almost effortless. His vision and smart plays lead to both points tonight. He is just such a pleasure to watch. So with 10 pts in 20 games, Dahlin is on a 40 pt pace. The Dahlin/Petterson ROY race is heating up. It's so much harder for d-men to get recognition in their rookie years, mainly I'm just hoping Dahlin garners the respect of a Calder nomination, if this play continues. Quote

PerreaultForever Posted November 20, 2018 Report Posted November 20, 2018 You have to remember D men generally take longer to develop than forwards. They have to grow, get stronger, learn both sides of the game. If you look at all the enduring D stars, lots of them had up and down starts in their early years. Dahlin is right where he should be. If we are lucky, next season he is on the second pairing along with more PP time and the year after that maybe first pairing. They are doing it right this time. Quote
