This will be a big test. We need to start beating the teams ahead of us, and Tampa is having a great season so far.

Very rough couple of games we got coming, a good test for this team.    lightning  ,  Jets/wild back to back games and penguins.

If we win half of those I'm happy ?

I'd prefer wins over lightning and pens than the Jets or Wild, but yeah if we can come out with 4-5 points I'll be happy. Pens are 3 points behind us with 2 games in hand, so a loss to them would put us out of the wild card spot. It's early in the season still, but these head to heads may be the difference at the end of the season.

TONIGHT’S GAME
LIGHTNING at SABRES

  • This is the first of four meetings between the Sabres and Lightning this season.
  • Last meeting: Tampa Bay defeated Buffalo 7-5 in Tampa on April 6
  • Next meeting: Thursday, Nov. 29 in Tampa
  • The Sabres are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games vs. the Lightning; 2-5-3 at home
  • This is the 99th game all-time between Buffalo and Tampa Bay; Buffalo has a 54-36-8 series record.
  • The Sabres are 25-18-5 at home against the Lightning all-time.

THIS DAY IN SABRES HISTORY

  • The Sabres are 11-8-2 all-time on November 13

WHAT’S THE SKINNY?

  • With 12 goals through Buffalo’s first 17 games, Jeff Skinner entered play Monday trailing only David Pastrnak (16 goals) for most in the NHL this season.
  • With his 10th goal in the team’s 16th game of the season on Thursday at Montreal, Skinner reached the 10-goal mark quicker than any Sabres player since Thomas Vanek (10 games) in 2012-13.
  • Only five players in franchise history have scored more goals through 17 team games than Skinner’s current total: Dave Andreychuk (17 in 1992-93), Rick Martin (14 in 1972-73 and 1973-74), Danny Gare (13 in 1980-81), Gilbert Perreault (13 in 1977-78) and Thomas Vanek (13 in 2008-09).
  • Only Rick Vaive (14 in 1988-89) has scored more goals through his first 17 games played with the Sabres.

  • Eichel: 15 EVP (T-6th), 15 A (T-7th), 66 S (T-8th)

If Pierre is doing this game, which player do you all expect him to be drooling over all game?

Dahlin. It's his first game with the #1 overall pick

Too bad Skinner was taken off Jack's line for awhile!

I'll even take four points out of eight, no matter how those points come.

Kucherov

"Kucherov played for the Dyatkovo Dynamo in the Bolshevik Mini Mites league in 1998. Great hands then and even better now".

Or other random facts Pierre seems to have about players.

Putting Reinhart on the top line to "balance" the lines is one of the reasons I don't trust Housley. Sure Pomminstein might have slowed but has that line? Nope. I bet that Sobotka - Erod - Pommers line isn't going to be something and when it stalls, the blame will fall on Erod because for some reason the coaching staff haven't figured out Sobotka is an anchor.

Doc: “you know Pierre, today is Kucherov’s Uncle Andrei’s Birthday! It’s also the Lightning trainers sisters nieces great uncle Mark’s birthday! So happy birthday Andrei and Mark and a driiiiiiiive!”

"And Stamkos knifes it into the corner!"

I hate that one. We will hear it no less than 17 times tonight.

To be fair, I can picture him saying each of those phrases clearly. He is nothing if not consistent. :)

Back to the game - this is a big test for our up-and-coming team. They have had some intriguing showings against the last few teams, but I don't think they will be able to overcome a slow period and battle back against this solid Lightning team.

I don't mind McGuire, but I find Emrick pretty annoying.  He's knowledgeable and passionate about the game, which is great, but he needs to talk about 30% less IMHO.

Separately -- here are a few items I'd like to see tonight:

- Good goaltending -- Hutton played well for much of the Canucks game, but allowed 2 poor goals

- Reino ending up back with ERod and Sobotka, and either Pommer or TT with Jack and Skinner

- TT showing some offense

- Sharp, smart play in the D-zone, esp. from Risto -- otherwise TB will make it hurt

- Eichel looking healthy and rested

As much as it was nice seeing Jack return in the Vancouver game, he was definitely nowhere near his usual self. If he has to play at 70% like last game, I don't see us with much of a chance tonight. He needs to be a difference maker.
