The 3-4-0 Buffalo Sabres skate into Los Angeles to take on the 2-4-1 Kings in an afternoon matchup.

The Sabres have scored 13 goals and given up 22 goals in their 7 games to date. Similarly, the Kings have scored 14 goals and given up 23 in their 7 contests.

Can Buffalo climb back to .500? Rumor has it that HCPH is shaking up the 5v5 lines and the PP lines:

53 Jeff Skinner - 9 Jack Eichel - 29 Jason Pominville
71 Evan Rodrigues - 37 Casey Mittelstadt - 21 Kyle Okposo
43 Conor Sheary - 17 Vladimir Sobotka - 23 Sam Reinhart
28 Zemgus Girgensons - 22 Johan Larsson - 10 Patrik Berglund / 72 Tage Thompson

19 Jake McCabe - 55 Rasmus Ristolainen
Marco Scandella - 8 Casey Nelson
26 Rasmus Dahlin - 81 Remi Elie* (Bogo and Bo-U with “maintenance” days)

Here's how both power-play units looked on Friday, with Dahlin also joining the top set of five:

PP1: Eichel, Skinner, Mittelstadt, Pominville, Dahlin

PP2: Sheary, Reinhart, Okposo, Rodrigues, Ristolainen

Sabres power play has gone ice cold, going 1-for-21 in their last four games [4.7%]. Will these changes help?

LETS GO BUFFALO!

So, Mittelstadt in the Reinhart role & Skinner in the O'Reilly role?  Would really rather have Reinhart on that unitinstead of Pominville, so Skinner could be Okposo & Mittelstadt fill the O'Reilly/Sheary role.  And would probably rather have Sheary there as that was pretty much the only thing that worked this year: Eichel to Reinhart to Sheary.  Having Skinner at the other 1/2 wall should either be very open, or force some space for Eichel which would also re-opn the E-> R-> S play.

I suppose they could try Pominville at the high slot role, but that's not where he's historically set up on the PP & really not convinced he passes well enough to have him there.  And expect Skinner would be better from the 1/2 wall than the high slot as well.  Too congested for his waterbug routine to be effective there IMHO.

GAME in Los Angeles Staple Center

3:30 ET

ESPN Game Preview:  http://www.espn.com/nhl/preview/_/gameId/401044424

The Buffalo Sabres will try to stop a 2 game losing streak this afternoon by playing the equally struggling LA Kings.

Reportedly Phil was tired of GA's rants about the forward lines so he changed them again at practice yesterday:

Skinner-Eichel-Pominville

Sheary-Sobotka-Reinhart

Rodrigues-Mittelstadt-Okposo

Girgensons-Larsson-Berglund

Unfortunately to try and keep him quiet for next time he put Pominville on the #1 line. Bogo was a NOGO at practice yesterday with his new pairing partner Ballou so no news on D pairings but according to Vogl the pairings were McCabe and Risto, Scandella and Nelson, Dahlin by himself. Phil you crazy MF'r, you can't seem to help yourself

Berglund is back in the lineup so a certain free man was caught practicing his lines.. image.png.e88ac17da98f60db22c63f62b08f9b62.png

Also please follow the new unspoken GDT rules :

  1. No acne jokes
  2. No telling Mr. Flagg to STF..... you know the rest
  3. Logo hate was grandfathered into the rules so that's ok
  4. LETS GO BUFFALO

It’s too early to tell but I think the Kings might be genuinely awful.  Must win.

Somewhere on a Kings forum someone psoted the same about the Sabres.

Like the moth to a flame I was ready to come back and get burned for this game... then my son's hockey team realized they had ice tonight so I will end up having to miss/listen to parts of the game....

I'm hoping that I should be irritated about that rather than thankful for it.

We can beat these guys.

MUST WIN!!

Who's in net?

Hate the 5:00 PM start time.  Just terrible.

I loved the gold and purple with the crown jewels logo from that long time ago.  In college my team wore those colours.

What else?????

Oh, yeah ...

GO SABRES!!

I think every GDT this year has said must win lol. Interesting lines. If you are reading this Phil, I don’t think Pommers can skate with Eichel and Skinner.  Maybe switch him with Girgs as they have connected before in 17-18.

Every GDT opening should have this. Here’s to hoping these new lines spark something because the only thing left is call ups and benchings followed by firings.

I don’t like Pommers on the first line but maybe he gets Eichel and Skinner to keep it simple.

Dahlin on PP 1 is good to go.
