He also had surprisingly good hands for a big man. The last drill before bag skates on the 1st day was a 3v3 inside the blue lines. He had a couple very nice dangles to open room for a pass. Hoping he still looks as good against NHLers as he does vs AHLers. 1 Quote
Doohicksie Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 He's not the one I'm worried about. I could see Bowl-You or Nylander not contributing. If it's Beaulieu he will likely end up as 7D and wasting a roster spot. If it's Nylander he probably gets more AHL seasoning (which is okay with me, at least to start the year). Quote

LikeEich Posted September 18, 2018 Report Posted September 18, 2018 Didn't get to watch the entire game, caught some bits here and there and highlights. A few things that my eye. Positives -Work ethic, not just the couple guys that had an * attached, entire team competed hard. - structure/system. Cycled the puck well, opened up seems for defensemen shooting (dmen had 9 shots). Alot more clean, organised and efficient then preseason games of past. -Goaltending. Tandem was solid. IMO Ullmark was pretty nervous and it showed. Ultimately both played as well as we can ask. Special teams. Powerplay seemed mediocre, produced some chances. Pk was good, goaltending played a part in that as well. Negatives Outshot. Seems to have become a Sabres tradition. If we hope to be competitive, big deficits on the shot clock won't help that. Physicality. I'm not saying we need John Scott back, but finish your hits. As fast as were becoming there's teams bounds ahead. Playing the body will slow them down! (It's not like we didn't hit, we did okay but an uptick in physicality would be beneficial!) Penalties. Too many at inopportune times Nothing to put too much stock into. There's was only a handful of NHL players on each team. Also very pleased with Thompson and Nylander. Both have a serious chance at playing in the NHL all season, but both will have to earn it day in day out. Quote
