Hank Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I'm familiar with Hutton from his time in Nashville, I like this signing a lot. Quote
erickompositör72 Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) Besides our good players becoming better (Casey, Eichel, Samson, Guhle), I think not having Lehner will have the most noticeable impact on this team's improvement in the coming season. I'm thrilled. Edited July 1, 2018 by erickompositör72 Quote
Doohicksie Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I have scarcely been whelmed by Carter Hutton’s skills. But he sure seems like a good dude. Calm and positivity in the room will be a serious upgrade to the millimetre-thick glass of Lehner’s psyche. :flirt: Quote
Stoner Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Nice guy. Cheap. Can he stop a wraparound with seven minutes left and the Sabres just having taken the lead? Quote

Sabel79 Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 but don't forget, Lehner could make big, impressive saves when we were down 4-1 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd Having chucked 3 of the four in his own net in the first three minutes of the second after we went up 1-0. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) When you wake up to find out that the Sabres have immediately signed the best available UFA at a position of immense need, who has a chance of being extraordinary, to a good contract below market rate because that player wants to compete in Buffalo and is already comfortable with the coaching staff. DarthEbriate Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Good/excellent goaltending can really make a huge difference. This is good Precisely. Last year notwithstanding, that Canadiens roster is nothing to write home about and got embarrassed come the playoffs, but for the last 6 seasons they've consistently made the playoffs on the strength of Price. And our average roster rode the Hasek coaster all the way to consistent playoff appearances and a few deep runs. Hutton/Ullmark won't likely be great, but if they're good then we'll be good. Last season our goaltending was wretched. Quote

Hopefully Hutton is a big improvement. Quote

Hopefully Hutton is a big improvement. Uffda. I'd rather not think about that. Just take his .93+ save percentage and replace it with .91 and look at the shots and games played and.... Yeah. We'd have drafted in the top 5 without Hasek and that same squad. I loved them, and they had a few very good players, but they thrived on Hasek and the counterpunch. Now, another goalie wouldn't have cost as much and maybe that makes the team better... Quote
Taro T Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 At that price, ok. Here's to hoping at least one of these prove out: last season wasn't a fluke but the product of something clicking; or Ullmark becomes what MODO expects him to be very soon. Because if neither does, it's going to be another long season. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Vollman did an analysis a while back analytically searching for the most lopsided trade in history. It was the trade for Hasek to the Sabres by a mile. Removing him from the equation gouges that team, potentially right out of the playoffs. Quote

IKnowPhysics Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 This seems like a bit of an overstatement No, you're right. A reasonable person would have used a modifier in front of that adjective. Quote

erickompositör72 Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Wow...thats a really reasonable contract consideing Chad Johnson got $4 million last year Yes, 2.75 AAV + ELC for our goaltending situation- it's great having a cap-nerd GM! Quote
Iron Crotch Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I've seen Hutton play far too many times (as a STH in Nashville) to think this move will make much difference for the Sabres. I guess we need another body in goal and we achieved that. The AAV ($2.75) is good. To me, best case sceniaro is Ulmark takes the starting spot and runs with it. Linus is not a young kid. He's about to turn 25. Quote
pi2000 Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Welcome Dwayne Roloso... I mean... Carter Hutton to Buffalo! Quote
