Mustache of God Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 With the 2018 draft in our rearview mirror, it's time for us, Sabres Fans, to turn our attention to the 2019 draft and start thinking about what BUF needs to do to secure the best odds in the Jack Hughes lottery. Let's face it, Buffalo isn't winning the Cup this season. So it would be a disservice to try and finish anywhere but dead last as Jack Hughes is truly a once in a lifetime generational talent... not counting McDavid, Eichel and Matthews... and maybe Dahlin. So rev up your tank engines Sabres Fans and let's get this party started! IMO, the first step should be trading ROR.. better yet if they get a likely lottery pick in return. Moving him would open up a huge hole in the lineup, losing a PK and PP centerpiece, and faceoff genius. Nobody else can do those things as well as him. Probably good for about 10-12 additional losses with him out of the picture. Then sign a journeyman goaltender and make him the starter. Bury Mittlestadt, Guhle and any other promising young guns in Roch the entire season. That should be enough for another last place finish... I'm ready. I tried to start my tank today but the engine wouldn't turn. I took it into the dealer but they're saying the warranty just expired. Figure I'll sell the tank for scrap metal as it's probably time to move on. Quote
Stoner Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 We'll see how the season goes :P You do not disappoint. Quote
dejeanerret Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Sabres finish deadlast this year and Housley will be fired, fans will be outraged, and season tickets will be availalbe for cups of coffee. No way that happens again. We don't need Jack Hughes to be successfull, and honestly we have enough talent now to lead us into the playoffs within the next two years. Leave that for Arizona Quote

Leave that for Arizona It can get a lot worse, even with the additions of Dahlin and Mittelstadt. Especially if GMJB: 1. Trades O'Reilly for a defenseman that is worse than Ristolainen then; 2. Trades Ristolainen for a forward that is worse than O'Reilly. 2 rookies won't be enough to overcome that if it happens. Even awesome blue chip rookies like Dahlin and Mittelstadt. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 It can get a lot worse, even with the additions of Dahlin and Mittelstadt. I doubt we trade ROR for a defenseman worse than Risto. If we did, there'd be a good top 6 forward coming along with. Quote
Drunkard Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) I doubt we trade ROR for a defenseman worse than Risto. If we did, there'd be a good top 6 forward coming along with. We'll see. If he was trading O'Reilly for a defenseman 1 for 1 then I could definitely see the defenseman coming back being better than Ristolainen but if he insists on the deal including a 1st round pick and another prospect or whatever his basket of lesser pieces fetish entails then I could definitely see the defenseman coming back being a down grade. Time will tell, although I'm still hoping he doesn't trade either of them. Edited June 28, 2018 by Alkoholist Quote
PerreaultForever Posted June 29, 2018 Report Posted June 29, 2018 This is why we must get Montreal's first round pick as part of the ROR deal. If there was a way to get Ottawa's away from Colorado I'd do that too. Sam Pollock 101. Quote
Trettioåtta Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 So we were 31st last year We added a top 4 D, a middle 6 winger and swapped goalies Where do we get now? 26th? Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Well, we now know to tie Reinhart and ROR's skates together. And Casey Mittelstadt will do something, but we don't know what. 24th. 22nd if Bogosian can actually play this year and Eichel isn't out more than 15 games. Quote
Brawndo Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Well if the Sabres want to follow the Leafs Method of Losing with Dignity, the slogan should be changed to “We Paid Our Dues For Jack Hughes” Or just start winning Quote
CallawaySabres Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I still think Ottawa and Buffalo Duke it out for bottom 2 Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 That's putting a lot of faith in Arizona, unless you're factoring the jersey bump. Also, Montreal is trending like a meteor. Quote
inkman Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 I still think Ottawa and Buffalo Duke it out for bottom 2 I'm never, ever one to pump my teams tires but the Sabres will have to do a lot wrong to be a bottom 3 team again. Every single facet of their game should be markedly improved. Quote

WildCard Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 Yeah, BUF will be better everywhere expect face-offs, PP, and PK. So 3 aspects of modern day NHL that aren't too important to winning. I'll take it Quote
Randall Flagg Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 I hate Botterill more than I hated Bylsma. Quote
Trettioåtta Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 So who is the consensus number 2 next year? Quote

I guess they just did a lot wrong. Quote

PerreaultForever Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 We have St Louis's 1st now right? With ROR in their lineup they should challenge for dead last. It's what he does. Quote

It was pretrade. Whatever ground they gain from being better at the little things will be surpassed by ROR absence. Quote

Long-term maybe it’ll work out but not what I was hoping for. Quote
