LGR4GM Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 (edited) I would have taken someone different. That said he is a 6' C/RW who is going to college next year. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/271642/matej-pekar Edited June 23, 2018 by LGR4GM Quote
Thorner Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 College boy. Scouting report on NHL network says playmaker. Quote
dudacek Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 Hockey News had him ranked 64. “Best motor in the USHL. Hunts pucks, gets points and works.” USHL rookie of the year. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 Never thought I'd live to see the day that Botterill drafted a college player. Quote
Robviously Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 NHL Central Scouting Rank: No. 55 among North American skaters What the scouts are saying: The Czech Republic native is part of a growing trend of European players heading to North America to play junior hockey. The Hockey News scouting report says Pekar has “the best motor in the USHL” and he had 14 goals and 54 points in 56 games as a rookie with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. He’s a two-way forward who works hard at both ends of the ice. He played on Muskegon’s top line and was also used on the power-play and penalty-killing units. While he is primarily a playmaker, he has a quick release on his shot and has the ability to create openings for himself. While he needs to add strength, he has shown a willingness to battle for loose pucks around the net. He’s strong along the boards and understands that part of a centre’s responsibility is to drop back to help the defencemen. He’s committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Why the Canadiens would be interested: While the Canadiens insist they draft the best player with only a passing nod to need, Pekar might be a player who falls into both categories. He’s a centre with decent size and he has the speed that the Canadiens feel is essential in today’s NHL. A few years of U.S. college hockey will allow him to add the strength he’ll need at the next level. In good company: Pekar was selected as the rookie of the year in United States Hockey League and it marked the second consecutive year that the honour went to a player from Muskegon. The winner last year was Andrei Svechnikov, a Russian who went on to play for the Barrie Colts in the OHL. Most observers believe expect Svechnikov will be the overall No. 2 choice in this year’s draft behind Swedish defenceman Rasmus Dahlin. http://montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/nhl/hockey-inside-out/canadiens-prospective-draft-picks-for-2018-matej-pekar-centre Quote

Eleven Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 I would have taken someone different. That said he is a 6' C/RW who is going to college next year. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/271642/matej-pekar I'm beginning to wonder about what freeman said in the other thread. There may be too much bias against CHL kids here. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 23, 2018 Author Report Posted June 23, 2018 I liked Gruden who went literally the next pick better. So I am 0 for 2 now with the player I wanted going literally 1 pick later. Weird. Quote

Rasmus_ Posted June 23, 2018 Report Posted June 23, 2018 I like the picks so far. I'm fine with this. There were small preferences, but this is in no way a bad pick. Quote

GASabresIUFAN Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 NHLNetwork said after he was drafted that he works well in tight and is an excellent playmaker. Also said he had 54 pts in 56 games (40 assts) with 42 PTS IN EVEN STRENGTH! Quote
