Kelly the Dog Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Not really sure why he should be considered a Swedish defenseman. Sure, we know who his dad is but he was born in and lived his whole life in New Jersey. His mom is from Pittsburgh. Quote
Sabel79 Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Corey Pronman is really hating on this pick in the Athletic... he's a draft guy and I like his stuff, but everything else I've read is positive. Hmmmmm. Quote

He's effectively an American defenseman that is masquerading as a Swedish denfenseman :) Quote
Drunkard Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 I like nelson over bogo more Same here, but mostly because he's cheaper and he isn't guaranteed to miss half the season or more like Bogosian. Quote
jsb Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Same here, but mostly because he's cheaper and he isn't guaranteed to miss half the season or more like Bogosian. Maybe because he's never played a full 1/2 season in the NHL yet Quote

Hmmmmm.Pronman tends to value high end skill over all else. That’s not Samuelsson’s game. Looks to me like in your wildest dreams he turns into a Mike Ramsey and in your Because Buffalo nightmare Mike Weber. Most likely I’m seeing a Richard Smehlik or Rhett Warrener, but with better wheels. Edited June 24, 2018 by dudacek Quote
thewookie1 Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 He honestly strikes me as a mid 6 defenseman who just does his job, doesn't make a lot of noise(aside from the boards' noise) and will naturally work with a Risto or Dahlin type in the future. Quote
Winston Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 All I know is that he needs to score off a feed from Reinhart. “Samson to Samuelsson” is a wicked call. Quote
Derrico Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 we need to start hitting on some non type 10 picks. What was it 2014 or 2015 when we had 3 2nd and basically missed on all of them. I heard about how Hurley was a couple of days from being so young that he was almost eligible for the next draft. All busts. I'm fine if his ceiling is a shut down second pairing guy with a higher floor. I'm sick of missing on these picks. Let's build some depth here. Nothing I've read yet makes me think anything but this being a good pick. Quote

Since Vanek, Pominville, Roy, Miller, we have pretty much shot blanks on draft weekend. It's an incredible run really. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 24, 2018 Author Report Posted June 24, 2018 I worry about his overall agility. That's something he needs to work on. Outside of that he's very solid densely. I'd give him 2 years in college or 1 college 1 AHL before we think about him seeing Sabres ice time. He's got some things to work on. I'll need to go back and look to see if I think he was the best defender available. At least they didn't draft Ginning. To be fair, I'm a little biased because I wanted Berggren. I think Samuelson with his leadership was important to Buffalo. Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Wilde and McIsaac were still on the board. While I like this pick the above has me concerned. I really wanted the Sabres to draft McIsaac. And not because he is a Moosehead, but he is a very good hockey player who happens to be a Moosehead. Quote

WildCard Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Saw the perfect hat for you yesterday. Blue hat with two crossed swords among three gold Sweden crowns. Link? That sounds pretty awesome Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 He is going to Western Michigan in the fall to play with his brother. The WM coach also coached Kjell Samuelsson when he played for the Flyers. Quote

It's an incredible run really. The end of finding late round guys correlates well w/ the implementation of video scouting. We are friggin' due (at least in theory) to start seeing some (ANY!?!?!?) late round hits now that scouting has been largely restored. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 Link? That sounds pretty awesome https://justdishinhockey.com/products/dahlid Wilde and McIsaac were still on the board. As they are stressing character as part of their player evaluations I bet that Bode Wilde was off their board. Besides he de committed to Michigan, Botterill probably forbid anyone from mentioning Wilde’s Name in his presence. Quote
North Buffalo Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 Mathias looks like a guy who wants calmly wants to break guys. In a matter of fact whatever you puny forward. Lets see how these boards feel. Or the Chris Pronger pitch fork in front of the net. Quote
WildCard Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 https://justdishinhockey.com/products/dahlid Meh, extremely underwhelmed honestly Quote
