darksabre Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 I didn't see this yesterday either, but here it is from Dreger" I might be done with Dreger as an "insider". Quote
Huckleberry Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 If you have two supposed bad goalies, but one's stats crush the other's albeit in an easier role, and the better stats man is noted for his excellent locker room presence while bad stats man refuses to practice the thing he's worst in the league at and is a black cloud over everyone's head, why would you choose that one? My only worry is that last year might have been an outlier for Hutton. Great season, but his first one that was this good. Quote
dudacek Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Worst case scenario for Hutton is actually 2017/18 Chad Johnson Quote
Iron Crotch Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 If we're planning on moving O'Reilly as is heavily rumored, then making a run at Paul Stastny makes sense. Mittelstadt is just a kid and we need scoring depth. The problem is most veteran free agents want to win now and we can't offer that... so we probably have to overpay a little bit to lure a free agent who has many other offers/options. Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 I have no desire to overpay Paul Stastny for 5 year when we only need him for 2. Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) My only worry is that last year might have been an outlier for Hutton. Great season, but his first one that was this good.Actually he has been improving for 5 years. In Nashville 13/14 40gms 2.62 .910 14/15 18gms 2.61 .902 15/16 17gms 2.30 .918 In Stl 16/17 30gms 2.39 .913 17/18 32gms 2.09 .931 To give a comparison, Tim Thomas joined Boston full time in 2005/6 at 31 and played 38 games for the Bruins in with a 2.77 .917. His only NHL experience before that season was 4 games in 2002/3. Like Hutton, Thomas played 4 years in college before beginning long-journey to the NHL. Unlike Thomas, Hutton has had a longer run of success in the NHL before earning a chance to be a starter. I’m not saying Hutton will turn into Thomas, but who knows for sure. nucci Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 This all comes down to money. Would love seeing what JVR could do playing with Jack. But the cost will be too much. Not to mention he disappeared during the playoffs and is a defensive liability. He's here for one thing, score goals. which is kinda important... Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 So we are trading ROR to Stl, then signing JVR, Stastny and Carter Hutton. Got to love the rumors mill. I thought we were linked to Neal, Green and the Easter Bunny as well. Quote

pi2000 Posted June 29, 2018 Report Posted June 29, 2018 Over the past 5 years Carter Hutton has a .681 save % on shootouts. 47 attempts 32 saves 15 goals allowed This save % ranks 24th in the NHL over that time period for goalies facing 40 or more shootout attempts. Lehner is .559 over that same time period ranking 45th. Yay? Quote
erickompositör72 Posted June 29, 2018 Report Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) I think everyone is going to be so pleasantly surprised with how much better we will do than Lehner. Not that the options are great, but the ineptitude of Lehner will be even more apparent Edited June 29, 2018 by erickompositör72 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted June 29, 2018 Report Posted June 29, 2018 Winnipeg wants Stastny badly but needs cap room for players they need to sign. Edmonton is already in cap hell. If we can move ROR to Montreal or St. Louis as rumored it'd be worth JBot looking at another Sheary/Hunwick type deal with either Winnipeg or Edmonton. Might be able to pull off a steal or two. Quote

inkman Posted June 29, 2018 Report Posted June 29, 2018 What's Montreal trading us? Next year's entire draft? Do they have a secret stockpile of left handed swedish defenders that will never play in the nhl? Just posted a similar thought in the trade speculation thread. Montreal doesn't have the assets to get it done. Maybe if they move Pacioretty for some young players then flip them to Buffalo, otherwise I don't see how they could get a deal done. Quote

He's here for one thing, score goals.in order to disappear from the playoffs, they would have to make the playoffs first, theres a good chance he could sign a deal where playoffs performance wouldn't be an issue here.....
