Brawndo Posted June 4, 2018 Report Posted June 4, 2018 Carlson, Tavares, JVR are some of the top UFAs available. http://www.tsn.ca/three-headed-monster-tops-2018-free-agent-frenzy-class-1.1099884 I have included Matt Cane’s List of UFAs and RFAs and what he expects them to sign for. I certainly would sign JVR for his projection, 3 years 5.5 Million and Calvin DeHaan 1 year 1.6 Million. Although that’s a slight raise for JVR and a pay cut for DeHaan, I doubt either happen For reference he has Samson on a 2 year 4.1 AAV Bridge Deal https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q-Pnzfvmo_1hDlWu7WqJHVyTZqy15386jVESKSOf0V4/htmlview#gid=0 Who are you interested in? GASabresIUFAN Posted June 4, 2018 Report Posted June 4, 2018 What kind of track record does Cane have in predicting UFA contracts? Hickey and DeHaan’s deals look way to low. I expect at least 3+ for either player. I’d love it if we could get either player for what Cane projects. I’d also take either one for 2-3 years at 3 mill Quote

GASabresIUFAN Posted June 4, 2018 Report Posted June 4, 2018 Accuracy look ok. Hit Lehner on the nose. Quote
shrader Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Three headed monster? Did that guy from Beetlejuice get to the other two? Carlson will definitely cash out big time though. The top D available always gets an outrageous contract. The D list as a whole doesn't look so hot, which will drive him up even more. If you want defense, free agency is almost never the way to go. Oh, and it's kind of funny to see Derek Grant on that list. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 Gimme Jay Beagle, one of Derek Ryan or Riley Nash, a D like Green or Pateryn depending on what you want to do with Dahlin. And then try for one more depth forward like Grabner, Perron, Plekanec. And Tavares of course. Quote
Derrico Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 He's getting up there in age now but I've always loved Grabner's game. Assuming he still has that speed left, he would be a very nice depth signing on a short term contract. Quote
LTS Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 I think it's reasonable to think that Buffalo goes for: Tavares (if available) JvR Carlson (if they are moving Risto) Perron Hutton (I think this is highly likely) Grabner Hickey de Haan Comeau From that list I think they only get 2-3 players... Quote
Randall Flagg Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 Oh man, I stopped thinking about Carlson when we won the lottery. But imagine grabbing him and moving Risto for some forward skill. Did I just find my new most-desired offseason event? Quote
Derrico Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 If Carlson goes from the Caps to Buffalo then it's because we severely overpaid. I don't know how we can afford this. It's true we would be losing Risto's contract but in theory the guy coming back at forward would likely have a decent cap hit. Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted June 9, 2018 Report Posted June 9, 2018 2million for Vanek, I'd say yes. Give Jack a scoring winger to play with. Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted June 9, 2018 Report Posted June 9, 2018 2million for Vanek, I'd say yes. Give Jack a scoring winger to play with. I'd bring in Vanek on the cheap, plus one of DaHaan or Hickey. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 9, 2018 Author Report Posted June 9, 2018 Per Dreger Ilya Kovalchuk in California this weekend. Visited with the LA Kings yesterday and will meet with the Sharks tomorrow. Quote
dudacek Posted June 10, 2018 Report Posted June 10, 2018 I’m most interested in the Sabres using their cap space to pursue RFAs who deserve raises their current teams may find difficult to justify under the cap. Columbus has $13 million to sign 7 players, including: Bjorkstrand Murray and Jenner, with Werenski and Milano coming next year. Tampa has $7 million to sign 5 players, including: Miller, with Kucherov, Point and four UFA regular defencemen coming next year. Winnipeg has $20 million to sign 9 players, including: Hellebuyck,Trouba, Lowry, Armia, and Morrisey. It gets worse next year when Myers, Laine, Wheeler and Connor’s deals are up. I’m sure there are more. Quote

dudacek Posted June 10, 2018 Report Posted June 10, 2018 (edited) Would we have to lose draft picks? Almost definitely, because those teams wouldn't be looking to add cap. I'm perfectly fine trading picks for 23-year-olds. Our under-25 group is as good as most in the league. What we don't have is many good players in their prime. Edited June 10, 2018 by dudacek Quote

Brawndo Posted June 12, 2018 Author Report Posted June 12, 2018 Why though That’s what happens when your GM trades for Weber and signs Karl Alzner, this is the next logical step Quote

dudacek Posted June 12, 2018 Report Posted June 12, 2018 Johnson is essentially a healthier Bogo, right? Physically gifted, competent when he’s on his game, but prone to errors? $6 million is insane Quote
