Stoner Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 The numbers don't support my feeling of home ice dread for a deciding seventh game. According to Wikipedia, there have been 171 Game 7s since the advent of the best of seven series in 1939, and the home team has won 100 times. As for the Sabres, oh mama, they are 0-5 on the road in Game 7 (and 1-1 at home). Still, the feeling persists. What do you think? Quote
Doohicksie Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Where does that feeling persist? I've never heard of this "home ice dread" you speak of. Quote
Marions Piazza Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Is there anymore stressful, yet exciting game than game 7? I have never been to a playoff game live, let alone a game 7, but heck yeah I would love it. Game 7, 2020 Cup Finals in Buffalo against the Oilers. Where do I sign up? Quote
North Buffalo Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Hoping the Sabres make it to a game 7. That means they are in the playoffs. I’ll worry about game 7 dread when they can show they can make it there. Quote
carpandean Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 I'd be interested in seeing whether the winner of game 6 (won an elimination game to stay alive) impacts the probability of winning game 7. Though, I would likely control for home ice, as well. Quote

I believe this site has the data you want, but I don't think it's easy to find: http://whowins.com/ As for me, an elimination game, I want it at home. Quote
darksabre Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Game 7 is the only elimination game I want at home. If Game 6 is a game that could eliminate us I want it on the road. Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Game 7 at home every day of the week & twice on Sundays. ;) Not even debatable IMHO. Last change & the crowd is behind you. You've done this 3 times against this particular opponent already. The 'grip your sticks too tight' home game is game 1 (game 3 for the lower seed) not game 7. Quote
Doohicksie Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 & twice on Sundays. ;) Wait. Wouldn't the second one be Game 8? Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Wait. Wouldn't the second one be Game 8? Triple OT. ;) Quote
pi2000 Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 depends on how the team is playing at home that season Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 depends on how the team is playing at home that season If the team is playing poorly enough at home that it would be a question of which venue is preferrable, the question is moot. (THAT team won't get to a game 7 & CERTAINLY wouldn't have the opportunity to host it.) Quote
SwampD Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Right now, I'd kill for a game 1. ...Away. Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Nice recovery. Recovery my ###. Knew somebody would come back w/ your reply when the original was posted. Just figured it would probably be PA w/ the reply. ;) You were the 2nd guess, though. :p Quote
Doohicksie Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Not sure how I should take that. Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Not sure how I should take that.  It's all good. Quote
Taro T Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Yeah but.... PA..... Is what it is. :p Quote
Stoner Posted May 11, 2018 Author Report Posted May 11, 2018 Where does that feeling persist? I've never heard of this "home ice dread" you speak of. Reading is Fundamental. The 'grip your sticks too tight' home game is game 1 (game 3 for the lower seed) not game 7. Good point. I always prefer starting on the road. Of course that also means ending there, which is fine by me. Quote
sodbuster Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 I've had dreams about the Sabres winning the cup at home. A a hundred-thousand-legged, beer and nacho fueled state of emergency marching its way to Niagara Square... I don't care what history says, I want a chance at that. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 I just want the team to be relavant in game 7 of the regular season Quote

I do get this feeling as well sometimes. It’s easier to accomplish your “goal” for the first two game set if you are the road team, as the goal is always only a split. Easier to start the series off on the “right note”, in that way. Quote
