GASabresIUFAN Posted May 10, 2018 Author Report Posted May 10, 2018 Mogilny isn't European. Not even close. Yes the town Alex is from is the Asian part of Russia. However Russia is considered a European country as the Capital, Moscow, sits in the European part of the country. Quote

When you cross the Bosphorus you enter Asia. Therefore, one could make the argument that all of Russia is in Asia and a significant portion of Ukraine and Belarus is, as well. Quote

Mogilny isn't from just over the Urals. He's from the Chinese border--the easternmost part of the Chinese border. Quote

Weave Posted May 10, 2018 Report Posted May 10, 2018 (edited) Istanbul is traditionally viewed as the cut off point. When you cross the Bosphorus you enter Asia. Therefore, one could make the argument that all of Russia is in Asia and a significant portion of Ukraine and Belarus is, as well. I seem to remember being taught that the Ural mountains delineate Asia and Europe. Here it is: The modern convention of the Europe-Asia boundary (from south to north) follows the Aegean Sea, the Dardanelles-Sea of Marmora-Bosporus, the Black Sea, along the watershed of the Greater Caucasus, the northwestern portion of the Caspian Sea and along the Ural River and Ural Mountains So, we're both right. GASabresIUFAN Posted May 11, 2018 Author Report Posted May 11, 2018 How many current (and near future) prospects will be on this list in 5 years? That is a great question, especially with Jbot’s focus(?) on European players (or should I say Eurasian). You could probably almost build a full roster right now with prospects (this isn’t an evaluation of their likelihood to make the list long-term) Olofosson Asplund Nylander Weissbach Davidsson Karabacek Glotov Pilut Dahlin Laaksonen Budik Nyberg Ullmark Johansson Luukkonen Quote
Doohicksie Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 I'm putting Spacek on the roster just for the post game interviews. Only if John Scott can ham it up in the background. Quote
etiennep99 Posted May 11, 2018 Report Posted May 11, 2018 Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Scandinavia. Countries like Austria, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Germany. Ummm, that's Czechia now, for some inexplicable reason. No love for Jiri Dudacek? The media seemed to call him Doo-Duh-Check. But I meet a slovak who knew him. His name was Doo-Dah'-Check, emphasis on second syllable. [disclosure: I am not a Slovak.] By that argument, someone from Martinique is also European. Mogilny isn't from just over the Urals. He's from the Chinese border--the easternmost part of the Chinese border. And New Caledonia, Nouvelle-Calédonie, is European too. As are St. Pierre & Miquelon, French Guiana, & Réunion among others. Oh. Forget not French Polynesia!!! Ooh La La! And the Penguins have a bunch of French players from Terre Adélie. Quote
