Q1. Where are the French defencemen? [Maybe I just don't know enough of
their history to find any?]

Q2. Why were Yvon Lambert and Real Cloutier buried/destroyed by Bowman?

-My apologies if this has been done before.

Q3. Was Alan Haworth francophone?

He was born in Drummondville.  He played in the QMJHL.  He played for the Nordiques.  When he moved to Switzerland, he played for Bern which was on the Francophone/germanophone border.

Hogue (IMHO) gets disqualified because he hated playing for the "prejudiced against Francophile" Sabres organization. Pretty sure he would boycott the nomination.

The fact that their only 2 (up until this coming June) #1 overall picks were both French Canadian & that their most famous line was the French Connection didn't temper his disdain.

Juneau played like 9 games for us. How about Jacques Richard?

Here are 4 players with Anglo names but are from Quebec

Tony McKegney - Montreal, but played in the OHA for Kingston Canadians

Derek Smith - Quebec City, but played in the OHA for Ottawa

On D and both from Montreal

Gord Donnelly he played in the Q and for Les Nordiques

Gary Galley - NCAA

Sauve should be the #1 goalie.

Oh hell yeah.

IIRC, he shut out the Habs 2x in a 5-game series once,

On mobile, so I am actually sticking my tongue out at this post right now.

Ha!

Interesting factoids.

But if you're an anglo from Quebec, doesn't that disqualify you?

Just looked at Jacques Richard's page, first time I've heard of him. WTF is up with his stats?

Games/goals/points through his career:

74/13/31

78/27/43

63/17/29

73/12/35

21/2/2

61/10/25

14/3/15

78/52/103

59/15/41

35/9/23

end

What the hell happened that one year?

Posted

What?  You think Drew Stafford was the first to pull that stunt?

Haha.

The degree to which that year is an outlier is staggering. His second highest point total is only 41% of his highest. That's freaking insane.

Flag,

Richard was immensely talented but rarely applied it. That year he played on a line with one of the best ever named Peter Statsny. He was moved off the line the next year.

My mom used to call him the Turkey”

Put it this way - the equivalent to that scenario is Drew Stafford's contract year being a 122 point pace, rather than the 69 point pace it was.

Insane.

Ah, that would make sense.

He also was quite likely sober that season.

EXTREMELY rampant rumors that he took to the ice drunk during his years in Buffalo. He play, while a Sabre, did nothing to quash those rumors. He showed a lot of promise in Atlanta, which is why the Sabres were willing to part w/ Carriere & a 1st to land him. His was one of the Sabres worst trades ever.

The year was 1983 as I recall.  Sauve had 3 shutouts as I recall.  Then came Boston and Brad Park as I recall.

It was '83. But Sauve only got the 2 SOs in Moe-ray-all during the 3 game sweep.

Last Sabres series win until May Day in '93. (Celebrate the Tradition. <_<)

If Scotty started tearing down the team when he arrived, and the next playoff series win was over 10 years later, well, hey now, when can we expect our next series win?  2023? (based on Pominville trade beginning the tank).   Please let it not be so long away.

Depending upon how it's being defined, it could be said that Scotty started tearing down the team when he arrived in '79-'80.

But, if not for the HUGE layoff waiting for the Aisles in '80, that squad might have finally excoriated the Filly Spectrum demons.
