Flyers are an interesting trade partner. They're a team that needs to take a jump. They've got a core (Giroux/Voracek/Simmonds/Couturier/Gostisbehere) that O'Reilly fits in well.

And they have a deep list of young players that should interest the Sabres.

Nolan Patrick (not available, I'm sure), Scott Laughton, Robert Hagg, Travis Sanheim, Morgan Frost, Oscar Lindblom, German Rubtsov, Felix Sandstrom, Carter Hart, Phillippe Myers, Sam Morin and Travis Konecny, as well as picks 14 and 19 in this year's draft.

Wasn't Hextall with the Kings for the Carter and Richards trades?

PS: If we deal with the Flyers, I would not be surprised to see Lehner as a throw-in.

I go back to what freeman said about any O’Reilly trade being a disappointment because we won’t be getting the best player back, but that not necessarily meaning it was a dumb trade.

Pacioretty is a good player and would be the best goal scoring winger we’ve had since Thomas Vanek. He will help, just not as much as losing O’Reilly will hurt. What else do we get in the deal? Who else comes in from complimentary deals? How do we deal with Patch’s UFA status? Patches and three for O’Reilly and 32 is a helluva interesting deal, especially if we can sign a Riley Nash.

Also, am I the only one who gets the sense Botterill is playing chicken with Bergevin?

I feel like he has other offers that aren’t based around draft picks and he’s basically got Bergevin on the clock: put 3 on the table or I will move on to something else. Once you make that pick, the window is closed, you aren’t getting O’Reilly. Do you want him or not?

He has signed a 1 year deal in Rochester.

If we're trading ROR I don't want to wait for 2nd round picks to develop. Give me # 3 overall or give me nothin.

I would trade for #3 and set this team up for an unbelievable lineup of youth that could dominate for many years. Get that #3 pick in the lineup for next year and off we go. Clearly O'Reilly needs to go if there are issues....sounds like he is for sure gone and it better not include any 2nd rounders.

In the last ~20 years, I'd say that Sedin, Toews, Duchene, and maybe Draisaitl by complete virtue of playing with McDavid, fit the bill. Gaborik was better for a few seasons but ROR is lasting longer. Huberdeau may well be on his way to passing ROR. PLD could but he hasn't. So I would basically say that 4 of the last 22 3OA picks became better than ROR, which isn't a good hit rate in a draft where there are about six players that could go there.

Well and the other thing is it's not about who's picked at 3rd, it's really about who's picked at/after 3rd.

59, 41, 59, 55

61, 55, 60, 55

O'Reilly has outscored or equalled Duchene's production four years running.

He's been a better point producer, never mind the defensive end.

All the hype around O’Reilly is drowning out what are probably Botterilll’s biggest goals over the next two weeks: acquiring a goalie and a top six left winger.

In my opinion that, not Montreal’s interest in O’Reilly, is what is behind the Pacioretty talk.

Any thoughts on who else Botterill might be targeting?

Jake Allen is someone I bet he’s kicked tires on.

Jimmy Howard and Peter Mrazek may be others.

Maybe Corey Schneider?

Per John Shannon

Peter Chiarelli says he’s prepared to move the 10th pick for a quality defenceman. Has had “some” discussion. Admits it’s not that easy.

Jake McCabe is a quality D Man..

Are the Sabs at a point where they have a glut of reliable NHL defensemen?  I'm not sure they are, and I wouldn't move McCabe for a draft pick if not.
