Andrew Amerk Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 DRIVE! 3-0 Preds after one period in Winnipeg. Rinne looks sharp for once... and Hellebuyck looks shaky for once... Exactly. I cannot hear “DRIVE” all night. I’m content watching the game on mute. I’m also sure the Pens fans have been playing “ONE NOTE HORN” all night which is equally obnoxious. Quote
WildCard Posted May 2, 2018 Author Report Posted May 2, 2018 Ovechkin silences the Pens with a go ahead goal with 1:07 left. Wow Quote
Sabel79 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Nashville ties it up on a laser wrister from Foresberg. Wait, how were they losing? Weren’t they up 3-0? Also, whiteouts in today’s not-wearing-white at home NHL are dumb. Quote
Sabel79 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Huiiuiuuge save by Hellebuck on a clear brake away by Arvidson... this series is fun. Quote
darksabre Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Huiiuiuuge save by Hellebuck on a clear brake away by Arvidson... this series is fun. I'm probably cancelling my TV after this series. There won't be a better one in these playoffs. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Penalties every five seconds ruins an otherwise free flowing, fun game. Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Tough for Nashville with the penalties. But they did take them Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Tough for Nashville with the penalties. But they did take them The last two, yes. The Fiala call is the sort of thing that didn't get called most of the game. Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 The tv announcers back up the refs calls. I'm cool with that. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Off to watch my new rooting interest... the New Orleans Pelicans. I'm not an NBA fan, but we have no hockey team here in New Orleans, so.... ;) Quote
Sabre fan Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Talk about a total lack of class..that ***hole Tom Wilson hits a guy to the head, gets no penalty, breaks the guys jaw and leaves him with a concussion and he laughs! Pathetic...he's a bigger douch hen Marchant and that's pretty bad. Guess the NHL has stopped reviewing obvious hits to the head Quote
Eleven Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 ^ Looks to me like the initial point of contact was the shoulder, but laughing afterwards is ridiculous no matter what: https://streamable.com/c0x8o Quote
Sabre fan Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 yeah even Marchant doesn;t do that. Funny Pittsburg had that goon Ryan Reeves for a year or two and I laughed at that and then I heard that he was part of some trade with I think it was Vegas...Pittsburg could use him now. We always talk about how the Sabres do not respond to hits to their players just like that one and as we are seeing there are many other teams that do not respond even Pittsburg... Quote
pi2000 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 IMO that Wilson hit was clean. Hockey is a violent sport (well, it used to be anyway)... just because a guy gets hurt, doesn't mean there was an illegal hit. The PIT player needs to protect himself in that situation. Wilson didn't leave his feet or target the head or lead with his hands or elbow.... it was all shoulder, trying to deliver a textbook hit. USA hockey no longer teaches to finishes your checks (I'm a level 5 coach). They teach the sole purpose of checking is to separate the player from the puck. What I'm seeing now is that kids are not ready for contact after moving the puck, putting themselves in vulnerable positions. If the PIT player properly absorbs the hit (instead of trying to initiate contact himself), then he likely escapes without injury. Learning checking is just as much about understanding how to take a hit as it is to deliver a hit. The PIT player sees Wilson coming and reacts by accelerating/lunging towards Wilson... Wilson just beats him to the spot and Reese takes the brunt of the hit... that's how hits usually go.... whoever can get to that "spot" first, wins. In Reese's case he sticks his head out to create momentum, which backfires completely... that's not proper technique to absorb a hit. He should've realized he was lined up and just take the hit. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 I can't keep track of today's rules as to what is and is not allowed for hits, but it seems Wilson leaves his feet in the process of making the hit. Quote
Weave Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 I'm ready to just flat out say any head contact, intentional or otherwise, needs to be punished. The whole concussion thing that has come to light changes everything in my opinion. Quote

darksabre Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Three games for Wilson. That is surprisingly significant Quote
spndnchz Posted May 3, 2018 Report Posted May 3, 2018 That is surprisingly significant The head is the main point of contact and could have been avoided — Player Safety Quote
Weave Posted May 3, 2018 Report Posted May 3, 2018 Hmmm... I disagree, but am rather satisfied with the result. Progress. Too bad he wasn't suspended after the first hit. Maybe the 2nd one never occurs. Quote
