Tom Backyard Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) Good topic. Funny you should bring it up. The timing is really a coincidence since I’ll be starting a radio show next Sunday on WIOX FM Roxbury (a community radio station in the Catskills, where I live). It’s called The Spirit of Radio: Reagan to Clinton. It’s a retrospective of college rock, new wave, synth pop and post punk from 1980-1992. I’m pretty excited to weigh in on this topic. I’ll come back later. Edited April 13, 2018 by Tom Backyard Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Not one from the Police, Duran Duran, and the Pretenders yet? Interesting. <_< and <_< and .. And ... All my teenage boy fantasies involved Chrissie Hynde. A lot of bad luck and sadness with that band. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 UB40 in the late '70s and early '80s was one of the 'hardest' reggae bands around. Then they kind of sold their souls. Two on my favourites from their first 2 albums in 1980 ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWj2SOiwHag Quote
Taro T Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Just about everything off Pretenders & Pretenders II is worthy. Too hard to narrow down. Would add: Squeeze - Cool For Cats Elvis Costello - Pump It Up Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him? The Cure - Close To You (extended version, 'cause the synth horns make the song) Quote

Eleven Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 When this thread is done, if it ever is done (because there is a multitude of incredible music already suggested and we're building), is there anyone willing to collect it all? Like we used to have mix tapes back in the day. Quote

Eleven Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) The Damned ... before they sold their souls ... The Damned never, ever were New Wave. Straight punk, even through that last album when Sensible (obviously but not publicly) relinquished creative control in a vain effort to sell a record or two. Edited April 13, 2018 by Eleven Quote

Like we used to have mix tapes back in the day. I actually have every song suggested so far except the Specials. We can always create a spotify playlist. "Sabrespace New Wave" I agree on the Damned. Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star Berlin - Masquerade The Call - The Walls Came Down Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen The La's - There She Goes Marshall Crenshaw - Someday, Someway Edited April 14, 2018 by GASabresIUFAN Quote

Sabel79 Posted April 14, 2018 Report Posted April 14, 2018 The La's are an English Alt band formed in 1983 and There She goes came out in 1988. Upon further review it was released in 1988 and again in 1990. Never chatted in the is either time. The band only ever managed to cobble together one actual album. Still garbage. Quote
