Taro T Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 I got into new wave/alt music in college during the 80’s. I also just finished reading former KROQ DJ and current XM First Wave DJ Richard Blade’s Autobiography and he was at the fore front of discovering and promoting bands like Berlin, Talk Talk, Depeche Mode and INXS. I’m thinking the best 250-300 songs of that era (1977-1987). Bands can have more then one song on the list. Nominations? Should I do this in poll form? I’ll start with two songs. B-52s Roam Psychedelic Furs Ghost In You Only because yoy'd mentioned the band; the song that they turned the lights on in Shea's about 3 years after they'd reinforced the balcony due to a U2 show (thankfully, they'd already reinforced it; getting crushed at a concert would've sucked) - INXS - Don't Change. Better choice - The Smiths - How Soon Is Now? Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 Ok, how about London Calling and another favorite? Sorry, can't name just one. If really pressed and just off the top of my head ... White Man in Hammersmith Palais. I took one of my signatures from it. It is high on my playlist, but it is hard for me to pick just one, or two. Good choices, although Siouxie's cover of the Beatles Dear Prudence is my favorite of hers Also we got plenty of time (all off-season) to build this sucker; take your time, or "Save it For Later" That said I'm going to add to of my favorites 14) Re-Flex - The Politics of Dancing (extended version) 15) Payola$ - Eyes of A Stranger The Eyes of A Stranger may be my favorite song from the New Wave era or at least in my top 10. Neo Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 One, this is smack dab in my wheelhouse. Two, I might give a dozen different answers on a dozen different days. Three, you’ve all identified so many of the songs. Four, Sabres79 and Once in a Lifetime moved me to post. That would’ve been my answer, tonight. The song that foreshadowed so much when I was young ... delivers as much today, so many years later. “They nailed it ... how could they have known”? Once in a Lifetime thrills in the front window and in the rear view mirror. And I ask myself, “well, how did I get here?”. Quote
Brawndo Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Neo! Good to see you again, I had dinner at the Salt Rock Grill in Indian Rocks Beach Tonight. And Once in a Lifetime means a lot more 30 plus years later. Quote

GASabresIUFAN Posted April 13, 2018 Author Report Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) Couple more: T-Heads - Life During Wartime Gowan - A Criminal Mind I love Life During Wartime, but then again, I like most songs by the Talking Heads. I even collect art by James Rizzi who did the artwork for Heads offshoot the Tom Tom Club's album cover. However is Gowan really a new wave artist. I think of him as Styx, which I'd classify as Prog Rock. Edited April 13, 2018 by GASabresIUFAN Quote

GASabresIUFAN Posted April 13, 2018 Author Report Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) DJ-Keith, thanks for the input, but if I listed all these it would take most of the fun about getting everyone's input into the list. However, I love some of the more obscure tracks on this list, but however, no Killing Moon for the Bunnymen? Would you mind if I went through your list and choose 10 songs to add to our group list that I think are a little more obscure? Edited April 13, 2018 by GASabresIUFAN Quote

Sabre Dance Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Now we are talking some music! Although I grew up with what is now called "classic" rock, the 80s was when I had my first real job and these were the songs that were playing at the clubs when we would go out on the weekends. Lots of tasty stuff. I could toss out a list, but I'll just proffer a few (and maybe not so obscure): The Cure - Hot Hot Hot!!! The Stranglers - Golden Brown Morrissey - Every Day is Like Sunday Siouxsie & the Banshees - Cities in Dust -EJ the DJ? Quote
