Randall Flagg Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 (edited) There are only 3 teams this year (NJ, Colorado, Philly) that I think have too many holes to have a realistic chance at the cup. The rest are all pretty close to each other. This should be a really good playoff season. Edited April 11, 2018 by Randall Flagg Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 For SwampD: This is actually quite anticlimactic. Here is the shot-based bracket: Here is the goal-differential-based bracket: They aren't very different and both seem plausible. Also, random note - Winnipeg has been truly dominant this year. There was a 3 game stretch where their offensive zone time with possession was about 25 minutes, compared to 6 total for their opponents over those 3 games. Are you using score-adjusted Corsi, or regular? Quote
Randall Flagg Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Are you using score-adjusted Corsi, or regular? To be honest I used scoring chances for because, while Corsi against is a better predictor of shots against, scoring chances for does slightly better at future goals, so I flipped a coin between those two since each gather thousands of events throughout the season, when the main point of doing the bracket came from a discussion broadly about sample size noise which makes goals relatively unreliable as a prediction metric. Plus Corsica was lagging, Natural Stat Trick wasn't, and Corsica is the place with adjusted Corsi I believe right? Quote

I love the information there, but hot damn is it a mess performance-wise. Quote
Taro T Posted April 12, 2018 Report Posted April 12, 2018 Nashville in 5 Winnipeg in 7 LA in 7 SJ in 6 TB in 5 Boston in 7 Columbus in 7 Pittsburgh in 4 Nashville in 6 LA in 6 TB in 6 Columbus in 6 Nashville in 7 TB in 6 Nashville in 7 Probably screwed. Favorites only go 4-4 at best in the 1st round. Quote

SwampD Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 Son of a,… I just realized I predicted 4 goals would be scored in the final. Was supposed to be 42. Quote

SwampD Bracket 2018.png I was totally going to point this out to you, but then realized since I could see other peoples' brackets that meant there was no changing them at this point, and then my millennial 5 second attention span took me elsewhere Quote
North Buffalo Posted April 13, 2018 Author Report Posted April 13, 2018 Kane with 2 goals in playoff debut I was totally going to point this out to you, but then realized since I could see other peoples' brackets that meant there was no changing them at this point, and then my millennial 5 second attention span took me elsewhereIt was called hyper child when I was young then ADD, whatever label you guys wants is probably fine. Eleven Posted April 14, 2018 Report Posted April 14, 2018 Ok. That's better. Now for Vegas to lose the battle of teams from (what I presume to be) disgustingly flashy cities. Quote
darksabre Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 Not that I had LA getting past the second round, but a first round sweep by Vegas in their first ever playoff series: I didn't see that coming. Quote

rakish Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 Anyone not have Vegas over Kings? Check the standings, almost half the group lost 10 points Quote
darksabre Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 Anyone not have Vegas over Kings? I did. I was betting on the Fleury playoff collapse. It just hasn't happened yet. Who is the mad man who picked LA to win the Cup???? Quote
Eleven Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 (edited) Anyone not have Vegas over Kings? I think I had the Kings in the final, losing to Tampa Bay. Edited April 18, 2018 by Eleven Quote
Sabel79 Posted April 26, 2018 Report Posted April 26, 2018 Holy moly a lot if us, me included, picked Nashville to win. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted April 26, 2018 Report Posted April 26, 2018 My bracket would have looked a heck of a lot better if Toronto had won. And I honestly don't remember picking Anaheim. I don't think it was an accident, I just have no idea what my reasoning was. I'm in a bracket contest with my family, and I always make them identical, and in that one I picked San Jose. *shrug* Quote
rakish Posted April 26, 2018 Report Posted April 26, 2018 I looked over Blue's shoulder when he was making picks. I always cheat from the wrong person. This reminds me of high school. Quote

Plus SJ was without Thornton I believe. Or I'm just making excuses because I picked them and the Kings Quote
