JujuFish Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Aren't buses safer than smaller vehicles? They are, largely due to their huge mass. Accidents that involve bus fatalities usually involve equally impressive forces, like a tree or, in this case, a semi. Had that semi been just a car, the only fatalities would likely have been in the car itself. Quote
Gramps Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Interesting. I just read that Greyhound in the U.S. equipped their buses with seat belts about 10 years ago. But your average school bus does not ... Quote
North Buffalo Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 But your average school bus does not ... New Ones do both my kids busses do Quote
pi2000 Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 This is horrifying. Having logged many miles on team buses, this is just unfathomable... Had some close calls traveling around the north east in the winter, but this is just something you never really think about when you're on the bus with your teammates hanging out playing cards, studying, or just enjoying each others company. Terrible tragedy. Quote

Randall Flagg Posted April 7, 2018 Author Report Posted April 7, 2018 Another player just passed away, it sounds like. http://thestarphoenix.com/news/saskatchewan/hes-actually-a-miracle-father-of-broncos-player-fought-to-help-his-sons-teammates/wcm/5b38be23-b946-4974-8de7-fb931e3bd682 Quote
Gramps Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 More updates ... http://thestarphoenix.com/news/local-news/humboldt-broncos-bus-involved-in-highway-crash Looking at the bus, I'm surprised there were any survivors. Quote
French Collection Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 This is sad, many families affected. The Saskatchewan hockey community is small, everybody probably knows someone tied to that team. There were family and friends waiting at the rink for them to arrive. I have been on team bus trips and I felt safer in the sense that there was only one white knuckle driver in nasty weather vs 17 parents driving their kids to a tournament hours away from home. My son is approaching may be playing junior hockey and on these trips in the next few years. I don't want to even think about that scenario. Quote
Stoner Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 From the aerial view, it seems clear that the truck driver heading west ran a stop sign and hit the bus that was heading north. There are no stop signs for north-south traffic. Quote
Nitro60 Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 Brutal. Small community forever altered. God bless the loved ones. Their road ahead is a daunting one. Quote
spndnchz Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 I’m heart broken. So sorry please reach out. Losing 15 friends in one day sucks. Quote
millbank Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Sadly a 16th has died with the passing of the teams female trainer Quote
