WildCard Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 There's a huge ####ing gap between Seth Jones & Bobby Orr. Saying Dahlin is the defensive McDavid is nearly equivalent to saying he'll be Orr. Not ####ing happening. When their careers are reviewed, Dahlin will probably have been better than Jones. But it is not a given at this point. Would say Dahlin is more of a MacKinnon level prospect. Which is concensus #1 pick & likely to be an all star. But FAR from a lock for being a HoFer. Dahlin is more than MacKinnon. He's at the same hype level as Tavares/Eichel. If he was a forward, people would be gushing even more so over this kid Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 The hype is almost always far better than what reality turns the prospect into with very few exceptions. Orr, Mario, Wayne, Crosby (one could make the argument that he turned out better than the hype, IMO) and that guy in Edmonton. There are probably others, but that is a list just off the top of my head. You know, that place where I juggle. Quote
Thorner Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Yes, and Jack is about the 40th best offensive player in the league 3 years in, the season that corresponds to Karlsson's first Norris trophy as best defenseman in the world. Not Seth Jones the prospect, Seth Jones right now, a guy who is outperforming his prospect status, a guy who will get Norris votes this season and has a chance at winning one or two throughout his career. Eh...don't agree on Jack at all. In actuality he finished 29th in points per game this season, on this team. Getting 40th from that makes little sense. My general point still holds that Dahlin being an Eichel prospect doesn't make him a McDavid or even a guarantee to be a Karlsson, because Eichel, who hasn't disappointed at all, is barely top 30 in scoring at the same season in which EK won a Norris trophy for bestp layer at his position in the world. You are forgetting to eliminate the 7 players technically listed ahead that have only played a handful of games this year and thus don't qualify. Edited April 9, 2018 by Thorny Quote

I filtered to 20 GP and it got rid of all the little guys back when I originally checked. Everyone left on the list had played at least 50, and there was a 4 in the tens place by Eichel. Then Nashville happened. And that has incredibly small bearing on the point I was trying to make about Dahlin relative to Karlsson. Edited April 9, 2018 by Randall Flagg Quote
Thorner Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) I definitely agree with your main argument, though. Well sue me then. Saying our Franchise guy is around 40th this season when he's closer to 20, given the team he plays on and the actual stats, is something I wanted to correct. I apologize if you deem it to have little bearing. Edited April 9, 2018 by Thorny Quote
