darksabre Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 Same here. Shore appears to be a bottom 3 guy at best, Gaborik is pretty much finished at this point, Phaneuf is worse than ever, and Nate Thompson also sucks. Gaborik has 3 years left at a $4.875M cap hit Phaneuf has 3 years left at a $7M cap hit. He has $18.5M left on that deal salary wise, so 75% of that is $14.0625M. Over 3 years that cap hit is $4.69M. Someone on Twitter says it's about Phaneuf's bonuses making it harder to buy him out. Gaborik would be cheaper to buy out. Quote
WildCard Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 (edited) Someone on Twitter says it's about Phaneuf's bonuses making it harder to buy him out. Gaborik would be cheaper to buy out. Surprised LA didn't just buy him out then. Unless LA now buys out Phaneuf with Ottawa taking 25% of the salary, and Ottawa buys out Gaborik. Maybe they just traded buy outs? Twitter replies are pretty great to Dreger's announcement of this Edited February 14, 2018 by Jokertecken Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 The GM's wanted to prove respectively that they COULD move Phaneuf/Gaborik? I thought for sure LA was going to stuff his bag full of painkillers at the border to Richards him. Or did they forget to do that with Lombardi gone? Quote
LTS Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 For aging veterans with bloated salaries.... yes. I do see it as a prep move by LA more than anything. Quote
dudacek Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 Makes me wonder if those Bogosian to LA rumours had any substance. Quote
WildCard Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 Makes me wonder if those Bogosian to LA rumours had any substance. Could be, maybe before he got hurt I thought for sure LA was going to stuff his bag full of painkillers at the border to Richards him. Or did they forget to do that with Lombardi gone? Saving that for Brown Quote
Huckleberry Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 No way Karlsson/hoffman stay with Ottawa, seems like a full on rebuild to me. They are stallin' for dhalin :censored: Quote

woods-racer Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 Does this set #themarket ? For aging veterans with bloated salaries.... yes. I do see it as a prep move by LA more than anything. Mouslon is getting traded? Quote

The Dominator Posted February 14, 2018 Report Posted February 14, 2018 I'm itching for a good Sabres trade rumor. I need some hint at what offers are being thrown around Quote
PerreaultForever Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 14 different teams had scouts at the last Sabres game. At least 8 teams supposed to be interested in Kane. This is a test for Botterill, to see if he can time this out just right. If he waits until the final day I think he blows it and the price will drop fast. Quote

If he waits until the final day I think there we'll have a bidding war and the return could be substantial. fixed Quote
PerreaultForever Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 Nope. Last couple years the deadline has backfired on those that waited. Check it. Biggest deals were a week or few before it. Murray made this mistake too. Quote
dudacek Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 (edited) If there are eight teams bidding for Kane, those same teams are in on Grabner, Nash and maybe Vanek and Maroon as rentals. Of the teams looking at rentals, some team is going to pay asking price early to get the guy they want. Some team will overpay after that to make sure they don’t get caught with the dregs, while another will grab a dregs so they don’t overpay. If Kane isn’t the guy in the first or second trade, he’s going to be the only legitimate target left for the rest of the bidders. If their are eight suitors legitimately interested, Botterill looks to be in a pretty good spot. He’s got arguably the best rental available in what appears to be a sellers market. Different story if only two or three legitimately want to add. Edited February 15, 2018 by Mick O’Manly Quote

PerreaultForever Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 This is back from January, but it's the kind of thought process that worries me about trying to up the bidding too much: https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2018/1/17/16900852/evander-kane-trade-rumors-buffalo-sabres-jason-botterill Who did Murray wait to long to trade? Kulikov and Gionta. McGinn. Also Chris Stewart was supposed to be worth more than a 2nd earlier on. Quote
