Sam looked like goddamn Ryan O'Reilly out there today. I hope this assertiveness stays, because if it does, we need him to stay. Best Sabre today by far.

Way too much giving up the puck for 50-50 battles on the power plays tonight. NJ is too fast, they won every race and got the puck out before a battle could even happen. We weren't playing lumbering Lucic or Loui Eriksson tonight like we did on the road swing.

Ugly game for the home crowd.

I'm not sure how much it tells you about the team, if anything, but the number of times we've outshot our opponents this season is higher than we've seen in a long time.

McEichel year: 11 times in 82 games

Last year: 23 times in 82 games

This year: 26 times in 50 games

Game of bounces tonight. The effort was there, NJ is just better.

When you try harder you get the bounces. HowTF does Jack let the guy coming out of the box disrupt hit play? That's awful!

Eh, even w/ an all star break in between, this team has issues 1st game back from a western road trip.

Expecting they'll be better the rest of the home stand.

Liked that, for the most part, they kept up the good d-zone coverage they displayed last week.

Get outta here with the cement head jv coach jargon. They generated opportunities, they just didn't convert.

That said, Eichel completely blew that play. He should have known the NJ player was leaving the box.

True, but he absolutely refused to let Hershier get the ENG after he stole the puck.

That wasn't JV jargon. That's what we saw tonight. There were plenty of times where they were coasting until they realized there was a Devil hustling after them making them then have to rush a play and then blow the play. I didn't see hustle from the Sabres a lot tonight.

I swear to god you see bizzaro games. You spent the first half of the season saying they were playing good games on nights where they were getting their butts kicked.

I think part of it is that they just had a lot of success against slow grindy teams, and time and space that were available to them the last week and a half has disappeared. The Devils may have the fastest straight line skater in the league on their 3rd/4th line, you have to play a totally different style of game against them, and we never really adjusted.

I also saw coasting besides all that too, frustrating.

I just can't get excited about a game where they were pressed the entire time, most of the play was in our zone (except the PPs), and it never felt like the were going to score until 4 minutes left in the game.

We had four power plays and they had none,... thats kinda somethin'. Don't know if I've ever seen a Sabres game where didn't have a single penalty.

Just finished the game on delay.

Hall shouldn't have been out there to score the game winner. It doesn't matter that KO wasn't hurt. He went to the boards to play the puck. Hall had KO's back to him before he even moved to make the hit. If player safety is actually a thing, that nonsense needs to go.

I said (to my dog) at the start of the third that if the Sabres get a shot on net from the point the world will come to a grinding halt. I counted two after that, one of which went in. Against a goalie with the rebound control of a fungo bat, that's not good enough.

The last fifteen minutes of the first period were excellent. The rest of the game, not so much.

Miles Wood is an awesome porn stage name. Please tell me his middle name starts with an O. Also, he absolutely abused Risto for his goal. Not a good look, 55.

Pominville is now Ennis without Ennis's ability to create something nice roughly once every four games, but also less likely to make a mistake. He costs a little more. But Scandella's play has made the trade worth it, either way.

We have some ugly contracts on this team.
